Heavy Weight

Heavy weight characters like their name implies are all about weight and speed. This weight class has the highest speed stat of any weight class. However, they have low stats in acceleration and handling. This makes it hard to get back up to your top speed after being hit or harder to stay on the track. Because of this, heavy weight characters are the hardest to use in 150cc and 200cc. To be successful with heavy characters, players will have to pick karts that offset they lack of acceleration and handling.

Link, King Boo, Rosalina, Pauline

Speed: 4.25

Acceleration: 3.25

Weight: 3.75

Handling: 3.25

Traction: 3.75

Miniturbo: 3.25

Link Kart Combination

Link Kart Combination

Link made his first appearance in Mario Kart 8. King Boo made his first appearance in Mario Kart: Double Dash. Rosalina made her first appearance in Mario Kart Wii and was the first female character in the heavy weight class. All three of them are the lightest of the heavy class. Because of this we will not be focusing on weight and speed. The best kart combination for Link, King Boo, and Rosalina is the Mr. Scooty paired with the Azure Rollers and the Super Glider. This setup makes it easier to control these heavier characters at high speeds. Since they naturally have a higher speed stat, increasing their acceleration and handling will make them breeze through the tracks.

Metal/ Gold Mario, Pink Gold Peach, Petey Piranha

Speed: 4.25

Acceleration: 3.25

Weight: 4.5

Handling: 3.25

Traction: 3.25

Miniturbo: 3.25

Metal Mario Kart Combination

Metal Mario Kart Combination

Metal made his first appearance in Mario Kart 7. Gold Mario, Pink Gold Peach, and Petey Piranha all made their first appearance in Mario Kart 8. This is where we start to see an increase in the weight stats. The best kart combination for Metal/ Gold Mario, Pink Gold Peach, and Petey Piranha is the Flame Rider paired with the Rollers and the Super Glider. This setup has a great balance for every stat. The Flame Rider complements the weight of the characters while the Rollers give a much needed boost in acceleration and traction. On top of that, this kart has great mini turbos to take advantage of.

Donkey Kong, Roy, Waluigi, Wiggler

Speed: 4.5

Acceleration: 3.25

Weight: 4

Handling: 3

Traction: 3

Miniturbo: 3

Wiggler Kart Combination

Wiggler Kart Combination

Donkey Kong made his first appearance in Mario Kart 64. Waluigi made his first appearance in Mario Kart: Double Dash, Roy and Wiggler made their first appearance in Mario Kart 8. Although these characters are heavy and fast, they are rather easy to control. The best kart combination for Donkey Kong, Roy, Waluigi, and Wiggler is the Wild Wiggler paired with the Rollers and the Waddle Wing. Yes this means Wiggler riding on a Wiggler is the best option. This kart distributes their stats evenly with having the most focus on acceleration. Because of their weight the top speed is fast and the rollers balance that out with great handling and traction.

Very Heavy Weight

Very Heavy weight characters are the heaviest and fastest in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Although they are the fastest, they take a major hit to their acceleration and handling stats. Naturally very heavy weight characters can be hard to control. This makes it even more difficult to use them in 200cc. While players can try to lean into their speed and weight stats, it is best to try and balance all of their stats.

Wario, Dry Bowser, Funky Kong

Speed: 4.75

Acceleration: 3

Weight: 4.25

Handling: 2.75

Traction: 3.25

Miniturbo: 2.75

Wario Kart Combination

Wario Kart Combination

Wario made his first appearance in Mario Kart 64. Dry Bowser made his first appearance in Mario Kart Wii. We are in the territory of all weight and speed so we will lean into that as best we can. The best kart combination for Wario and Dry Bowser is the Landship paired with the Slims and Hylian Kite. This setup leans into a great top speed while balancing out all of the other stats. The acceleration is good enough to not get too far behind after being hit or falling off the track. The handling and traction also handle the weight and speed just be careful going off-road.

Bowser, Morton

Speed: 4.75

Acceleration: 3

Weight: 4.5

Handling: 2.5

Traction: 3

Miniturbo: 2.75

Bowser Kart Combination

Bowser Kart Combination

Bowser made his first appearance in Super Mario Kart. Morton made his first appearance in Mario Kart 8. These two are the heaviest characters in the whole game. Because of this we will be offsetting their major stats in weight and speed. The best kart combination for Bowser and Morton is the Biddybuggy paired with the Rollers and the Cloud Glider. If you have followed our other Mario Kart 8 guides, you will know this is a tried and true setup. Putting these heavy characters in this setup makes it much easier to control their weight and speed especially in 200cc. The kart has great acceleration and all of the other stats are distributed evenly. This makes them well rounded instead of their usual nothing but speed and weight.
