Introduction
So your opponent has some wimpy creature with a very annoying ability. Your units are strong enough to take it on in a fair fight, but your opponent isn't letting it anywhere near the battlefield. That's where Killer comes in! Killer allows you to Exhaust a unit and force it to fight against another unit of your choosing. When combined with skills like Deadly and Overwhelm, you'll steamroll the competition no problem!
This guide will give you all the solutions to the Killer puzzles in Eternal's puzzle mode. Along with the bullet-point list of moves, you'll also get a more detailed explanation for why the solutions worked and how you should address future, similar, situations.
You can find the guides for all the other puzzles in Eternal here.
Bronze
- Cast Venomfang Dagger on Talir's Favored.
- Cast Predator's Instinct on Talir's Favored.
- Target Argenport Instigator with Talir's Favored's Killer ability.
- Attack with all units.
The combination of Deadly and Killer is a devastating one. We give Talir's Favored the dagger since otherwise she could do no damage with her non-existent strength. We give her Killer and then have her kill the Instigator. We want the Instigator dead because it'll deal 1 damage to our opponent as soon as it dies. After that, the opponent has only 1 blocker left, and no matter what we're getting 6 damage through.
Instigator's ability triggers for all units, this is why we target her with the Killer rather than the Terrazon. If we target the Terrazon, both players take 1 damage. Then the opponent will use the Instigator to block one of your Outriders. They both die, and you'll be taking 2 damage, which is enough to kill you outright.
Silver
- Cast Skycrag Wyvarch.
- Cast Trigger-Happy.
- Use Skycrag Wyvarch's Killer ability to kill Argenport Instigator.
- Cast Alluring Ember.
- Cast Combust, sacrificing Skycrag Wyvarch to kill Lurking Sanguar.
- Attack with all units.
The main obstacle is Argenport Instigator. If any of your creatures die while it's on the field, you'll die from its ability. Wyvarch is enough to kill Instigator, but in doing so will die itself, so we can't have that. Quickdraw allows it to deal damage first, and avoids taking any itself. That doesn't mean it'll live to the end, though.
We have the Sanguar to worry about now. Since the Wyvarch isn't going to be doing anything else this turn, best ditch it to fuel Combust so we can kill the Sanguar. With the Alluring Ember now on the field, and our Yeti throwing out a snowball for 1 damage when it attacks, we have enough strength to take down the enemy.
Gold
- Cast Rakano Flagbearer.
- Cast Xenan Initiation on Rakano Flagbearer.
- Use Rakano Flagbearer's Killer ability to kill Scorpion Wasp.
- Cast Alluring Ember from the top of your deck.
- Attack with Alluring Ember.
The key to victory here is the combination of Warcry and Warp. When our Flagbearer attacks, the top unit of our deck, which we know is the Ember, will get +2/+2. We don't want it to attack, though, since we have to win this turn. Instead, by giving it Killer, we can free up our attack phase and take out the flying obstacle in one move. What this puzzle teaches is that Warcry procs on both attacking and using Killer. That's info that could save your life one day!
Diamond
- Cast Humbug.
- Cast Xenan Initiation on Humbug.
- Cast Talon Dive on Humbug.
- Use Humbug's Killer ability to kill Scorpion Wasp.
- Cast Skyrider Vanguard.
- Attack with both Pteriax Hatchlings.
Another lesson in how Killer operates more like regular attacking than you may think. We give Humbug Killer and Overwhelm because otherwise he wouldn't be able to do anything this turn. With the Overwhelm, the extra 3 damage left over after killing the flying 1/1 is dealt to the player, bringing them down to 6. We still don't have enough strength, though. Unless…
Thanks to Humbug, we have dealt damage this turn to the player, which activates Vanguard's Spark ability. Now our flyers have 6 strength between them and no one to block them.
Master
- Use Predatory Carnosaur's Killer ability to kill Rhinarc.
- Cast Striking Snake Formation.
- Use Ancient Terrazon's Killer ability to kill Sand Viper.
- Use Sand Viper's Killer ability to kill Dormant Sentinel.
- Use Bad News.
- Use Predatory Carnosaur's Killer ability to kill Scorpion Wasp.
- Attack with Ancient Terrazon.
As becomes clear with this puzzle, Killer is a onetime effect, much like Aegis. Use it once, and then it's gone. That's why we have our Carnosaur use his Killer ability to start, so that when we cast Striking Snake Formation, he gets a new dose of Killer. Terrazon is immune to damage, so Sand Viper's Deadly ability won't harm him. Our Sand Viper sadly must fall, but if it's to take out a Dormant Sentinel, that was a glorious death.
All our remaining units are Exhausted, which we can't have. So we cast Bad News to ready them up again. Carnosaur gets round two with Killer, but this time his target is Scorpion Wasp, a creature with Deadly. Sorry, Carnosaur! However, this leaves Terrazon wide open to move in for the kill and victory.
