Diablo IV – Why The Eternal Realm Is Better

The Eternal Realm is simply not a waste of your time in Diablo IV. You can still continue playing your favorite characters and try to conquer long term goals if you haven't in the previous seasons. Diablo IV's main appeal is to encourage players to start over again, but sometimes, it's better not to take that approach.

Diablo IV is simply described as a “seasonal” game. What that means is it’s a game that’s revolved around having seasons. These seasons will generally include special content to encourage players to come back to the game. Generally, to participate these seasons, the player simply has to start a fresh character.

This system is nothing new to those that grew up playing Diablo II back in its heyday. However, as fun it is to start fresh and make all the loot hunting exciting, it can feel tiresome. You literally start with basic gear, and you have to grind your way to reach your character’s fullest potential again.

Seasonal vs. Eternal

Thankfully, Diablo IV does allow players to continue their existing characters if they want to. Generally, these pre-existing characters will become a part of the Eternal realm. The downside of playing on the Eternal realm is definitely the lack of exclusive content from the Seasonal realm. I also noticed the player base is certainly smaller too, but there are still plenty of players playing or trading. Also from past seasons, Seasonal characters will become stronger than the Eternal characters when reached to their fullest potential.

There is a certain appeal of starting a Seasonal character. Experiencing the new content, and the whole point of playing action-role playing games is to chase the loot. Obviously, when you continue your character with high end gear, the loot chase is not that interesting anymore. For some players, this can be a turn off for their loot hunting journey.

The Items You Find Matters in The Long Term!

Personally, I think it is always nice that all the many hours you invested in your character still mean something. It’s just that nice that I can conveniently come back to my characters, and be able to enjoy the rare items I chased for.

I currently have found a decent amount of useful Mythic Unique items that I plan on using for future builds. I am obviously waiting when those items will finally be used. But when they’re finally used, I look forward to seeing how powerful they’ll make my newly updated characters feel.

Season seven has definitely done some gameplay changes I’ve noticed from the last season. I realized it’s much harder to find Legendary runes. Luckily, I already found a decent amount of them from last season, so I can still take advantage of it. I no longer have to stress on finding them unlike if I was playing on the Seasonal realm.

After all, I tend to switch to different video games because I’ve always loved playing other games and not just the Diablo series. Sometimes, I might not be playing Diablo IV in months or I’ll be playing it more than I thought. Whenever I feel like I’m in the mood for action-role playing experiences, I definitely think about the Diablo series for sure. Due to this habit, the constant starting over method can be unappealing at times.

Eternal Realm Is Still Worth Playing

I also have a similar approach to Diablo II. Usually, I tend to prefer to play on the Non Ladder realm. However, there are some moments where I do want to start fresh and try to grind my way on the ladder to collect the exclusive Ladder only items. For Diablo IV, I know I will return to the Seasonal realm again. I am simply not sure when I’ll be in the mood of wanting to start fresh again for Diablo IV. Perhaps in the next season when I feel like I did what I wanted to do on the Eternal realm.

Overall, it’s just nice that Blizzard does allow players to have options on the path they want to take when playing Diablo IV. Some players might label the Eternal realm as a “graveyard” for your Seasonal characters. I can definitely say that is not the case.

There are still a decent amount of players that still play on the Eternal realm because they want to continue playing their favorite builds. I would also recommend players to play on this realm if you want a more recreational experience too. If you have never obtained to Paragon 300, you can definitely still do that on the Eternal realm too. Another great thing about playing on the Eternal realm is your decked out characters make you feel like an unstoppable force.
