Konami released a video presentation entitled SILENT HILL Transmission just a few minutes before 2:00 PM PST. There were more Silent Hill announcements than any leak or speculation had anticipated. This 48:46 video breaks down everything new coming to the world of Silent Hill. Everything mentioned in earlier leaks was present in some way, but not as the leaks had framed them.

Silent Hill 2 Remake

The first thing shown off was a short teaser and some footage of Silent Hill 2 remake. Fans of the franchise recognize that this is the game that solidified Silent Hill as one of the predominant horror games. Everything appears to have been rebuilt from the ground up following the lead of the widely acclaimed Resident Evil 2 Remake.

Mashito Ito has returned to work on creature design as well as concept art. Akira Yamaoka is also redoing the music. Both are working in collaboration with Bloober team. As explained in the video, the approach is to use the original game as a base and then build on top of it. The game aims to be true to the original while modernizing where needed to create a similar impact.

Silent Hill 2 Remake will be a PlayStation 5 console exclusive and the game page is live now.

Silent Hill: Townfall

The remake is only “one of the new concepts” for Silent Hill. This game is coming from Annapurna Interactive and No Code. The next thing shown was a short and cryptic teaser for a new game titled Silent Hill: Townfall. All the teaser shows is some grainy images, a strange one-sided conversation about facing fears, and the tide washing ashore before turning blood red. However, watching the trailer again more closely for hidden details is suggested.

Return to Silent Hill Film

Christophe Gans, producer and director of the original Silent Hill movie, announced a new film project: Return to Silent Hill. This film appears to be taking inspiration from Silent Hill 2 more than anything with another promise of “classic, but modernized” creatures. Red Pyramid Head will be returning to the big screen and casting, as well as principle filming, are already underway.

All New Merch

The video took a few minutes to plug a series of new and some old merchandise. In total, five new 1/6 scale figures were shown off, including the first official Maria statue and an Inu-End coin bank. There is also a Pop Up Parade Bobble Head Nurse on the way and a 1/6 scale diorama of the infamous Red Pyramid Head and Maria in the elevator scene.

Silent Hill: Ascension

In a change of pace, it was announced that a new interactive story will be coming in 2023. Silent Hill: Ascension promises to be a communal interactive experience from Genvid, Bad Robot, bEHaviour, and DJ2 Entertainment. Writer and director J.J. Abrams provided a quote implying that he has a tangential role in development at the very least. Signup for the new experience is live at ascension.com. Interestingly, the email confirming submission mentions that the game will run 24/7.

Images and video clips showed the use of SMS messages. This feeds into the earlier leaks of Silent Hill: The Short Message. It appears that traditional text- style messaging will be a feature in the interactive experience to some degree.

Silent Hill f

The presentation ended with another new game being announced: Silent Hill f. The teaser video showed hauntingly beautiful flora growing and taking over bodies. Instead of the traditional Silent Hill town the setting appears to be more indicative of traditional Japan. A lot of the imagery and design were indicative of the images leaked earlier as part of the Silent Hill: The Short Message drop.

The game is being developed by Neobards Entertainment with a story by Ryukishi07 and creature/ character design by kera. The former is the pen name of an acclaimed Japanese mystery and horror author. The latter seems to be a little harder to trace. The spelling and capitalization are not typos; that is how they were presented on screen.

Fans of Silent Hill have waited eight years since P.T. for some promise of a return to the nightmare world. After years of speculation and rumors, the wait appears to pay off. It is worth noting that nothing was given a release date and many of these projects appear to be in relatively early stages of development. Regardless, there is much to look forward to.
