Sea of Thieves season 16 launched on May 22nd, and has the potential to change game combat forever. New mechanics, new powerful tools, new quests for the most feared faction: the Reaper’s Bones. Let’s take a look at all the added content together.
The Order of Bone and Blade Reawakens
Captain Flameheart is back, and with him the legendary Order of Bone and Blade. However, it is up to the player to choose to awaken it: by locating a specific reddish skeleton buried in the sand and digging it up, you will get a real flesh-and-…bone friend, ready to assist you and your crew until the end, by helping you locate treasure chests, carrying them and fighting along with your crew in pitched battles to the death.
One new and unusual thing about these skeletons is that, unlike the ones that can be summoned by throwing a special bomb, they can be revived as if they were normal players, so they can help you fight longer.
Introducing: The Portable Cannon
As you wander around the islands of Sea of Thieves, it is now possible to find, in addition to the gems, chests, scepters, and other items we’ve come to know, a great new item: the Rage Cannon, a real portable cannon courtesy of the Reaper’s Bones. Hopefully the developers realized that the game’s combat mechanics could potentially be changed forever, just as the harpoon mechanic had done before. As a portable cannon, the Cannon of Rage can literally be taken anywhere: in fort battles, on islands, and anywhere on the ship you feel like firing from. Combat will never be so intense. Just a word of caution: after a few uses, the cannon will overheat, so keep a bucket of water handy, otherwise, it will explode the same way the Chest of Rage does.

New Reaper’s Bones Quests
Two new missions are now available for the Reaper’s Bones, both of which focus on finding an Ancient on behalf of your boss, Captain Flameheart himself. But you won’t be alone: in addition to your crew, if you have one, there will be an entire crew of the Order of Bone and Blade at your side to help you uncover Ancient Secrets on your voyage and, of course, to fight the dangers that may arise. As later in the season, a new feature will be added: at last, since its introduction in the very early stages of the game, it will be possible to open the Reaper’s Chest, which will reveal a full-fledged spawner of skeletons from the Order of the Bone and the Blade: in short, a real portable backup in case the battles get tough.

- The Reaper’s Chest reveals an army of skeletons.
In particular, in the mission “Followers of The Flame” (see picture above), you will be given a special lantern needed to find all the Flameheart followers and thus create a new reaper chest.
⚠️ Warning: this last addition will only be available in the High Seas mode.
And finally, a new season means 100 new amazing rewards to discover, that include new weapons, clothing and coins (of all three types).
