Marvel Snap is known to be a game that is constantly flooded with updates, changes, and new additions. In fact, there was just an OTA patch a few days ago! Some of these changes are for the better and some are for the worse. Regardless, no matter how you feel about the changes, change is inevitable. Thanos dialogue aside, we’re taking a look at the brand new October 3, 2023 balance patch update and all of the latest additions to the game. Strap in, we’ve got a lot to unpack! (Or ‘unbox’ since we love to hoard our spotlight caches).

Card Changes
First, let’s take a look at the reason why you clicked on this article: card changes. Buffs and nerfs come and go and affect all sorts of cards in Snap. We’re going to list all of the changes and explain how they affect the meta going forward and their respective deck lists. Without further ado, let’s check it out:
- Mojo
- [Old] 2/2 – Ongoing: If both players have 4 cards at this location, +6 Power.
- [New] 2/2 – Ongoing: If both sides here are full, +6 Power.
This change is great as it allows Mojo’s ability to be activated more often. He’s already being played alongside Elsa Bloodstone and will continue to hold his own in a few deck lists.
- Uatu
- [Old] 1/2 – Once this is in your hand, you can see the unrevealed locations
- [New] 1/1 – At the start of the game, shows the right location to you
This is a nice little buff that removes the necessity of having Uatu in your hand for his ability to trigger. Not having access to information regarding the middle location and a power decrease is a bit harsh, but we’ll have to see how he plays. He won’t be game breaking or anything, but it’s a subtle change that aims for more consistency.
S.H.I.E.L.D. Archetype
There are also a few changes in the Marvel Snap October 3, 2023 balance patch update to cards that are primarily used in Devil Dino and Loki decks. Let’s take a look:
- Mantis
- [Old] 1/2 – On Reveal: If your opponent played a card here this turn, draw a card from their deck.
- [New] 1/2 -> 2/3
This change alongside the following three are aimed to switch up the curve in S.H.I.E.L.D. draw type cards. These changes are attempts to switch up and refresh the lines of play of the archetypes. Experimentation and different combinations will ultimately decide which cards feel the best whilst playing, but it’s cool to see some things switched up every now and then.
- Cable
- [Old] 2/2 – On Reveal: Draw the top card of your opponent’s deck
- [New] 2/2 -> 3/4
This change made Cable a bit clunkier to play as you’d often times opt to play Agent Coulson instead, but I guess now you have the option to run either or both.
- Maria Hill
- [Old] 2/3 – On Reveal: Add a random 1 or 2-Cost card to your hand.
- [New] 1/2 – On Reveal: Add a random 2-Cost card to your hand.
A very welcome change, Maria Hill now is extremely consistent, guaranteeing you a 2-cost card. Also, her being a 1/2 makes it so that there are other options to use instead of Agent 13.
Overall Thoughts
All in all, we’re a bit disappointed with the Marvel Snap October 3, 2023 balance patch update because we feel as though there are other cards that are more worthy of a buff or nerf. Nevertheless, these changes are welcome and serve an interesting purpose in Snap. Unfortunately, we do not think there is anything quite meta defining and Alioth and Loki still reign supreme as things stand. Hopefully, with the popularity of Bloodstone, we can see some different decks but until then, the meta is ruled by the God of Mischief.
