Marvel Snap has just dropped its August 8, 2023 balance patch update and there is a lot to cover. Before we check out what is new, it is important to note that this article will also cover news regarding the game’s lifespan in August in general. Therefore, expect information about spotlight caches and the season pass card! This update is a sweet one that includes a re-work of a notorious control card. Not only that, but there are a few new features that are debuting in Snap today! Without further ado, here is everything you need to know about Marvel Snap‘s August 8, 2023 update.
New Features
- New Feature – Multi-Upgrade: If you have enough resources, Multi-Upgrade allows you to select the Quality you’d like to target and tap the upgrade button once to directly skip to that Quality level! Save your thumbs and save some time!
- New Feature – Upgrade with Gold: If you are short on Credits and/or Boosters but still want to upgrade a card, you can now upgrade your cards with Gold (up to a limit each day).
- Improved Avatar Selection Flow: Tapping on the Avatar on the Main Menu will now bring up the Avatar Select screen, allowing you to change the current deck’s avatar quickly.
- When you view an upgradeable card in your Collection, and choose not to upgrade it, it will be “marked as read” and will no longer increase the red-dot notification count. Note: This went live in our last patch, but we forgot to put it in the patch notes.
Card Changes
- Cable
- [Old] 2/2 – On Reveal: Put the bottom card of your opponent’s deck into your hand.
- [New] 2/2 – On Reveal: Draw the top card of your opponent’s deck.
Cable was a card that was pretty under utilized due to the existence of America Chavez. However, with this change, not only do you prevent your opponent from drawing their next card, you get a mini-counter to Iron Lad, Howard the Duck, and Jubilee. This is due to the fact that you have this valuable intel regarding which card they will draw next.
- Magik
- [Old] 3/2 – You can’t play this on turn 6. On Reveal: Change this location to ‘Limbo’.
- [New] 3/2 – On Reveal: Replace this location with ‘Limbo’. Doesn’t work after turn 5.
Magik was by far the most played card in the game last season and that is because of the latest balance update which buffed her up greatly. This change is not another buff, nor is it a nerf. In fact, it serves a very basic purpose which is to allow you to play her on turn 6. Of course, her effect will not work as stated by the card text, yet she will be a legal card to play if you choose to do so.
- Mister Negative
- [Old] 4/-1 – On Reveal: Swap the Power and Cost of all cards in your deck.
- [New] Gameplay Change: Caps Costs at a maximum of 6. (no text change).
A much-awaited change, this modification makes it so that Mister Negative abides by the same rules as ‘The Peak’. This way, cards such as Living Tribunal or Jane Foster will have the maximum cap of 6-cost upon getting inflicted by Mister Negative’s on reveal effect. A welcome change that helps an already thriving archetype!
- Rogue
- [Old] 3/2 – On Reveal: Steal an Ongoing ability from a random enemy card at this location.
- [New] Gameplay Change: Now triggers On Reveals if the copied Ongoing card had one. (no text change)
Similar to Mystique in the previous patch, Rogue can now copy On Reveals if the Ongoing card she copied had one. This mini-buff is extremely useful in some niche gameplay scenarios that really will elevate your playstyle. For example, Rogue and Mystique now can copy Electro’s on reveal effect of increasing your overall energy. That is one of many examples, feel free to experiment as both Rogue and Mystique are fun tech cards that are perfect for smooth combo plays.
- Spider-Man
- [Old] 5/4 – On Reveal: Your opponent can’t play cards at this location next turn.
- [New] 3/5 – On Reveal: Move to another location and pull an enemy card from here to there.
Wow, just wow. Such an unexpected change that hit us out of nowhere! Galactus players are shaking because their toxic combo has finally been buried by development team. This change sees our web-head leaving his lockdown days behind him completely. Honestly, this change is extremely welcome as not only does it have good stats, it’s great in Surfer and can act as Galactus counter now! How ironic is that? Can’t wait to play this card post-patch and see how this similar effect to Polaris and Aero works out in-game. One thing’s for certain; his new ability definitely matches that of his Spidey-amigos in Miles, Ghost-Spider, Silk, and Spider-Man 2099.
- The Thing (Evolved)
- [Old] 4/6 – On Reveal: Afflict a random enemy card here with -1 Power. Repeat this twice more.
- [New] 4/6 – On Reveal: Afflict 3 random enemy cards here with -1 Power.
This change acts as a slight buff to Abomination as you can pull off the discount more consistently. However, it simultaneously acts as a small nerf to The Thing himself due to him not being able to affect the same card multiple times now. This change isn’t really all that significant and one that will probably go under the radar. It’s safe to say that our beloved friendly neighborhood Spider-Man’s re-work was the highlight of this patch.
