The Legend of Zelda spin-off series is more successful than anyone could have predicted! Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, according to a Koei Tecmo financial report, shipped 3.5 million copies during 2020. This is quite a feat, since Age of Calamity only released on November 20th. This is the highest amount of shipments that a Hyrule Warriors title has achieved.
It seems like Nintendo will be expecting these numbers to grow even more during 2021. For comparison, when the 2014 Hyrule Warriors released in Japan, they were able to sell just under 70,000 copies. The fact that their second title in the hack-and-slash series achieved such sales is a reflection of their hard work with the original Breath of the Wild developers. This is a prequel after all, and because of Breath of the Wild‘s tremendous success, more Zelda fans than ever were able to get their hands on it.
If you’re unfamiliar with this side-title but are a fan of Breath of the Wild, this game focuses on fast-paced combat and story moments that flesh out what happened before Calamity Ganon took over Hyrule. We congratulate the developers on their wonderful game and hope that 2021 will bring more copies to ship. You can purchase this title on the Nintendo Switch.
