The 6 Tanglewood Drive rework arrived in Phasmophobia on March 3, 2026 (v0.16.0.0). The update was released across all platforms where Phasmophobia is available.
While the core layout remains familiar, the rework mainly changes how players move through the kitchen and basement, adds new interactable props, updates hiding spots, and shifts several Cursed Possession spawns.
1. What Changed in the Tanglewood Rework?
The v0.16.0.0 update gives Phasmophobia’s original map a complete visual overhaul. The house now uses higher-quality assets and feels much more lived-in, while still preserving the overall structure that longtime players know.
Most rooms received new furniture, decorations, and props, but the biggest gameplay changes are in the kitchen and basement: the old kitchen island loop is gone, the basement gains a new train-table loop, and more objects can be used by players or the ghost.
Also added in this update: The Tanglewood Terror challenge was added to the Event Board.
2. Major Layout Changes
While the overall footprint of 6 Tanglewood Drive remains the same, two areas received notable layout adjustments.
Kitchen Changes
The most noticeable gameplay change is in the kitchen. The old looping spot around the central island has been removed. The kitchen area is now more closed off by additional dividing walls, reducing the effectiveness of circling the island during hunts.
Expect less open movement through the back of the house, especially during hunts, where the old island route used to buy time.
Basement Changes
The basement received the most substantial layout updates. A large interactive train set now sits on a central table, turning the basement into more of a hobbyist space. This addition creates new looping opportunities around the table.
The basement also features improved lighting and a new hiding spot underneath the stairs.
3. New Interactions and Props
The rework adds more objects that can create sound cues or ghost activity, including toys, tools, appliances, and the basement train set. That gives players more environmental clues to watch and listen for during an investigation.
Notable new or improved interactables include:
- Interactive train set in the basement
- Dog toys that can squeak
- Power tools
- Washing machine and lawn mower
- Moo toy, gnome, dollhouse, and other small props
These objects can be interacted with by players and used by the ghost during hunts or general activity, adding more tension and variety to the map.
4. Hiding Spot Changes
Hiding spots have been updated alongside the visual refresh. The most significant change is to the closet doors across the house.
New closet doors now feature slats, allowing players to see outside while remaining hidden from the ghost. This small change makes hiding feel more engaging and tense during hunts.
Beyond the slatted doors, the visual overhaul introduces several new blind spots to break the line of sight when the ghost approaches:
- A new hiding spot under the basement stairs
- Updated closet locations in bedrooms and hallways
- Improved garage hiding options
These changes give players more viable options when caught during a hunt, especially in the basement.
5. Cursed Possession Spawn Locations
The spawn locations for Cursed Possessions have been adjusted to fit the new layout and furniture placement. While some items remain in similar areas, several have moved.
Use this list to check each Cursed Possession spawn quickly during a contract:
- Haunted Mirror: Wall near the Master Bedroom (largely unchanged)
- Music Box: Inside the Master Bedroom closet
- Voodoo Doll: Children’s bedroom (near the bed)
- Tarot Cards: Living room side table
- Ouija Board: Basement, near the train set controls
- Summoning Circle: Basement floor
- Monkey Paw: Garage (on top of soil/fertilizer bags)
6. Old Tanglewood vs New Tanglewood Comparison
For veteran ghost hunters accustomed to the classic layout, this quick reference highlights the most important mechanical and visual shifts.
| Feature | Original Tanglewood | Reworked Tanglewood (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Visual Quality | Older assets | Full visual overhaul with new props |
| Kitchen | Central island looping spot | Island removed, more closed off |
| Basement | Basic storage area | New train set + better layout |
| Closet Doors | Solid doors | Doors with view slats |
| Interactions | Limited | Many new interactable objects |
| Hiding Spots | Standard closets | New spots + improved closets |
| Overall Feel | Classic but dated | More lived-in and detailed |
7. Tips for Playing the Reworked Map
- Re-learn the kitchen: Do not rely on the old island loop during hunts; treat the kitchen as a more restricted route.
- Use the basement table carefully: The train table can buy time, but plan an exit before committing to a loop, as it’s narrower than the old kitchen loop.
- Use closet slats for information: Watch the ghost’s movement through the slats without opening the doors or stepping out.
- Listen for new props: Treat squeaks, tool use, appliance use, and other object interactions as extra activity cues while narrowing down the ghost room.
8. Current Known Issues
At launch, the official v0.16.0.0 patch notes listed several Tanglewood-specific known issues, including:
- The utility room sink cannot be interacted with.
- Some areas or items may appear lit even when the light is off.
- UV fingerprints on certain objects (e.g., TV remote) can appear larger than intended.
- Rain audio may not play correctly during Blood Moon weather.
- Hiding spot doors in the foyer may appear incorrectly in multiplayer.
The 6 Tanglewood Drive rework successfully modernizes Phasmophobia’s most iconic map without completely changing what made it special. Returning players will feel at home, while the new details and interactions give the map fresh life.
