How to Complete the Fractured Malice Force Tear in Jedi: Survivor

Two Rancors too much for you? Here is everything you need to know to complete the Fractured Malice Force Tear in Jedi: Survivor. Luke Skywalker won't have anything on you after you cut through a whole two Rancors without the help of a very heavy metal gate. It may take a lot out of you but you can overcome this evil.

How To Complete the Fractured Malice Force Tear in Jedi: Survivor

One of the most iconic creatures from the Star Wars Universe is the Rancor. This hulking beast is fearsome, durable, and aggressive. Not only is the Rancor well-known within Star Wars, but the monster is a fan favorite. It was a no-brainer for the devs at Respawn to include at least one in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

The trailer got people hyped and ready to fight the Rancor. What people didn’t realize is that there wouldn’t be just one Rancor. Between the several Rancors in the game, they collected over 9 million kills by the beginning of June, a little over a month after its release. You can click here to see EA’s post that contained this stat as well as several others. So clearly this thing was hard to fight.

Knowing it was hard to fight just one Rancor, Respawn decided to add to that. The Fractured Malice force tear is found on Coruscant and features two Rancors ready to just straight up eat Cal Kestis. A fitting name for a force tear that was clearly meant to traumatize players.

In all seriousness, this is one of the most challenging fights in the game right up there with the Fractured History force tear which we do have a guide to here. It’s possible to master though as shown above. Without further ado, here is everything you need to know to one-up Luke Skywalker by killing two Rancors.

Where to Find Fractured Malice

As I mentioned, the Fractured Malice force tear is located on Coruscant. To reach it you have to make your way to the rooftops meditation point. If you fast-travel to it and look right, you’ll find a pipe that you can drop down to.

After you go across that, the rest of the path is pretty straightforward. If you don’t know where to go, just check the map. In the photo below, you can see my pathing after clearing the enemies.

As shown by the yellow line, the path to Fractured Malice is quite simple after traversing the pipe.

The path to Fractured Malice

You’re gonna wanna push onward through several small groups of Imperials. These groups will include a mix of stormtroopers, scout troopers, KX security droids (both normal and enforcers), and flame troopers so be careful. They probably won’t kill you but they can be annoying.

When you reach the end of the pathway you’ll find a door. Force lift the door and reveal the Fractured Malice tear. Before we go on though, there’s one major thing that will make this fight significantly easier that you’ll want to have. However before I go into it, I will give a spoiler warning.

Preparations

There is not a whole lot of preparation that you have to do for this fight. Stim canister count, perks, lightsaber stances, etc. don’t matter a whole lot. There are two things you’ll want to do before challenging the Rancors.

The first is upgrading your force slow ability. That means you’ll want the Greater Hold, Extended Hold, and Superior Hold skills.

The other thing you’ll want is to progress the story. If you haven’t done that yet, this is your last warning for spoilers. So after progressing through the story enough, you’ll reach Nova Garon.

It’s during the main story mission on Nova Garon that the player unlocks a hidden upgrade to the force slow ability through Cal unleashing his dark side. This new force slow gives you a major boost in damage while the ability is active. It is fantastic for killing Rancors.

Within the Force Tear

Now that Cal has the power to embrace the dark side you can use that to mend the Fractured Malice. Using whichever saber stance you’re most comfortable with (I used single blade) enter the force tear.

The most important thing to know in this fight is that the Rancors will not attack you at the same time with very very few exceptions. They will alternate.

In this photo you can see only one Rancor is advancing on Cal while the other is hanging back.

The strategy is quite simple but can be difficult to execute. At all times you wanna keep your distance from both and if you can try to keep them separate as well. When one comes to attack, dodge or deflect, depending on what it is.

After avoiding the strike, strike-back. Depending on the stance you use get 1-3 hits in and then move away. The second rancor will move in. Do the same thing, rinse, and repeat.

The Rancors’ Attacks

Because the Rancor is such a difficult boss on its own, I think it’s important to talk about how to deal with its attacks. The attacks can be broken down into three categories, the one you dodge, the one you jump away from, and the ones you can deflect.

The Rancor has a range of basic attacks that are deflectable. There is a wide swing, a one-handed slam, and a stomp. Each of these comes in a series of two usually. All are dodgeable, blockable, and deflectable. My best recommendation is the deflect them because that runs the least risk because if you mistime you’ll still block them as long as you have the stamina.

Then there is one you jump away from. This is a two-handed slam that creates a shockwave that goes in a straight line out from the Rancor. This will be signaled by the enemy flashing red. As long as you were keeping your distance it shouldn’t be challenging to jump away from it.

Finally is the most dangerous of the three categories, the one you dodge. This attack probably accounts for the majority of the 9 million deaths suffered by Jedi: Survivor players. The Rancor will curl up and then lung forward grabbing for Cal. If you get caught in the deceptively large hitbox, you will be bit down on dealing a one-shot-kill.

If you’re right in front of them when this happens, your chance of dodging is slim at best. That’s the main reason why you want to keep your distance from them at all times. You have to dodge sideways to avoid the attack. The further from the Rancor you are, the better a chance you’ll have at dodging it.

The Time to Strike

You’re probably wondering at this point why get the upgraded slow if you haven’t said to use it yet. Well, this is essentially a fight closer if you’ve been efficient up to this point. It certainly is a guaranteed kill on one of the Rancors though. When you get one of them down to half-health or slightly lower and make sure they’re separated, trigger the force slow ability.

Once you have embraced the dark side and frozen time for the Rancors, lay into the one that is at half health or lower. You will kill it before the end of the ability’s duration. Be careful because after the first few hits it won’t be slowed and it may get one or two attacks out.

After you kill it, you’ll likely still have time to slam the other one too. You’ll get a pretty significant chunk of its health out as well. You may even have enough in the tank to finish it right then and there. If you don’t, don’t worry, you only have one to worry about now and you can use the same strategies to dodge the attacks as before. With this Fractured Malice can be conquered and you can prove yourself a superior Jedi Knight.
