Marvel Snap‘s August Season Pass is an exciting one and we’re here to highlight the best decks to use in Marvel Snap, specifically, ones that include Daken, the season pass card. To those of you unaware, he is Wolverine’s son with similar abilities. This mutant is a 3-cost, 4-power card that reads: On Reveal: Add the Muramasa Shard to your hand. The Shard is a 1-cost, 1-power card that reads: When this is discarded or destroyed, double Daken’s Power. Immediately, there is strong synergy with cards that discard or destroy. This card finds a home in decks that typically include his father, making for some neat family bonding. That being said, these are the best Daken decks in Marvel Snap.
Daken for Granted – Shard Discard
As evident from the title, this deck will predominately focus on discard. Daken replaces Dracula in this traditional discard build. However, there is a lot of wiggle room so you can build a version of this deck that focuses more on Hela or even re-include Dracula. Some people like to play Nebula instead of Blade as the randomness of Blade’s discard can mess up your curve. It’s all up to personal preference in the end but for us, the deck list is as follows:
- Blade (or Nebula)
- Swarm
- Wolverine
- Colleen Wing
- Morbius
- Sword Master
- Lady Sif
- Daken
- Gambit (or Hell Cow)
- Silver Samurai (or Dracula)
- Stature (or America Chavez)
- Apocalypse
Similar to how you would play discard normally, there is always the goal of trying to discard Apocalypse and Swarm. Doing so not only boosts Morbius and Apocalypse’s powers, but grants you 0-cost copies of Swarm. Targeted discard is a very overlooked tool that is extremely essential in guaranteeing you get that Daken up to a 3/8. Colleen Wing shines in this deck the most, discarding the Muramasa Shard, Swarm, or Wolverine. Silver Samurai will help trigger Stature’s discount, however, if you do not have one of them then replacing both with Chavez and Dracula is a solid replacement. All in all, this is a reliably consistent deck that only really needs to look out for Spider-Ham.
‘Nuff Said Son – Destroy Daken
I could have included X-23 in the previous deck but I decided to make a family reunion here. Daken, X-23 and Wolverine all unite for one heck of an awkward family dinner. This destroy deck is a bit outlandish, yet it is not to be underestimated. Taking advantage of X-23’s energy generation ability is extremely useful in creating a smoother curve for your plays. Here is the deck list:
- X-23 (or Nova, Deadpool)
- Yondu
- Wolverine
- Carnage
- Bucky Barnes
- Venom
- Killmonger
- Daken
- Shang-Chi (or Negasonic)
- Lady Deathstrike (or Nimrod, Arnim Zola, Deathlok, Hulkbuster)
- Knull
- Death
There is a lot to unpack here but let’s just take a step back and relax. This is simply a destroy deck so the goal remains the same; kill everything. Shang, Lady Deathstrike, Killmonger and Yondu are going to help boost your Knull and discount Death. Venom also aids this mission but can be especially useful in locations such as; Cloning Vats, Sinister London, Bar Sinister, or Shuri’s Lab. Cosmo is your main enemy but watch out for Armor, Rogue, Enchantress and Juggernaut. There are a plethora of replacements you can make, in fact you can even alter the deck completely and make a Nimrod/Destroyer version of it. Overall, we believe this to be the most interesting destroy build that really feels overpowered.
Fancy Vacation? – Daken The Surfer
It is true, we saved the best for last. Surfer has already been dominating the current meta and it has yet again received another tool to utilize in its domination. Daken is a 3-cost card which of course means that he will synergize perfectly with Silver Surfer. This deck is not only extremely overpowered, it seems to have an answer to everything. In fact, you can customize this deck to include your favorite 3-cost drops to make it more personalized for your specific play-style. This is the deck list we’ve chosen to highlight:
- Nova
- Goose
- Polaris
- Storm
- Brood
- Daken
- Killmonger
- Silver Surfer
- Maximus
- Juggernaut
- Shadow King (or Jeff, Hit-Monkey)
- Sera (or Magik)
The most essential piece of information to keep in mind while piloting this deck is to remember play order. You generally want to play Surfer and Killmonger on the last turn, yet make sure that you play Surfer first. While Killmonger misses out on the +2 boost, Daken’s power rises to 7 (assuming Nova is in play), which then doubles to 14. If you play Surfer first, then Killmonger the Nova and Shard, Daken will double his power first, missing out on that extra power.
There are a lot of tools you can use to your advantage here. The first trick up your sleeve is having an element of lockdown with that cheeky Storm into Juggernaut combo. Potential to shut down any funny power-scaling business exists by playing Shadow King. Sera allows you to play three 3-cost drops on turn 6 which can make for some incredibly crazy combos. This deck is by far the most consistent and fun-to-use out of the three listed. Below is content creator CozySnap’s thoughts on Daken as well as some other cards.
These were the best Daken decks to use in Marvel Snap. As new cards get released, there will be new uses for Daken in unique decks. However, for the time being, these seem like the most straightforward decks to include this beastly mutant in. Of course, there will be creative decks that utilize the idea of reviving the shard and destroying/discarding it multiple times. Yet, we’ve decided to list the most reliable decks that can provide for consistent combos. This way, you’ll be able to climb safely on ladder and best your opponents. It goes without saying that this card is worth purchasing the season pass for.
