Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is a fun Windows platformer in which players need to collect bees that help them survive the lair. The Impossible Lair isn’t called that for nothing since it is tough to conquer. You’ll need all the bees you can get (or at least most of them) to beat it. This is how you can find the eight hidden bee locations in Yooka-Layee and the Impossible Lair.
Gasping Glade (Hidden Exit)
This first hidden bee location in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair can be found via a hidden exit in chapter five’s Gasping Glade level. To reach it, stop at the green door near the end of the level shown directly below. Wait for a platform to move toward you across the green sludge stuff on the right side of the door. Jump onto that platform and stay on it until you reach the hidden exit. Then you can exit the level from there to grab the game’s first hidden bee.
Fans Area (Overworld Location)
This hidden bee can be tricky to find since it’s not especially visible on the Overworld map. Head to the fans area on the far right side of the Overworld map shown directly below. To get to that platform, you’ll need to jump up the steps and walk over a wooden fence beside one of the fans. Then do a buddy-slam on the marked area there to reveal a staircase. Walk down the stairs to add another bee to your tally.
Production Path – Panic (Hidden Exit)
You’ll find this hidden exit to a bee on the Production Path – Panic level in chapter seven. Play through that level up to the point where you’re stuck between two laser bolts on the conveyor belt (shown in the snapshot below). Keep your eyes fixed on the bottom of the screen while on that belt until you see the hidden exit beneath a breakable platform. Do a buddy-slam through the platform to fall into the hidden exit and grab another bee.
Smokestack (Overworld Location)
To reach this hidden bee location in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, you’ll first need to unlock the door to the house with the smokestack chimney in chapter nine’s (check detail) overworld location. There’s a key available for 1,000 quills in that chapter with which you can open the door. Then enter the house, stick the missing pipe piece in its place, and put the furnace fire out with the water berry in the same room.
The house’s smokestack chimney will now be clear. Jump on the smokestack chimney at the top of the house to fall through it. Proceed through two doors to reach the room in the screenshot directly below. Roll through the small gap at the bottom of the wall circled below to reach the hidden bee. Then you can collect the bee hidden behind the wall.
Hazard Hangar (Hidden Exit)
You can find another hidden bee location in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair at the hidden exit in chapter 14’s Hazard Hanger level. Play through Hazard Hanger up to the point with the hanging, netted crate. Jump to climb onto the crate’s net, and stay on the netting until the crate goes up and stops moving. Then jump onto the platform to the right and break the quill crate. Collect all the quills over the crate’s netting before they disappear to reveal the hidden exit for the bee above the platform.
Desert Cliffside (Overword Location)
This hidden bee is atop a cliffside in the chapter 14 desert Overworld area. To reach it, jump up a few cliffside platforms to get to a flippable bridge. Flip the switch to turn the bridge upward and leave a hole in the ground.
Next, fall through the hole around the bridge. Jump up the wooden platforms to walk through the door in the room below. Then jump onto the top of the flipped bridge, and leap onto the cliffside to get across. You’ll find the hidden bee location on the other side.
Queasy Quay-Climb (Hidden Exit)
This is the last hidden exit you can find on the Queasy Quay-Climb level in chapter 16. A part of that level includes wooden platform switches that you need to jump on. Play through to get to the wooden platform switch by a small green pipe shown in the screenshot below.
Walk through the pipe onto the wooden platform switch to activate it. Activating that switch brings down a half-crate fall of quills. You’ll need to quickly roll and jump under the crate when it bounces to get into a pipe just behind it. If you’re too slow, you won’t be able to reach the pipe. Walk through the green pipe you’ve rolled into to get to the hidden exit that leads to the hidden bee.
Beach Area (Overworld Location)
Finding this final hidden bee location in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is relatively straightforward. You can get to it by going swimming in the chapter 16 beach area Overworld location. Swim to and jump onto a sandy platform on the southwestern side of the water. Then do a leftward roll jump to reach the higher platform across the water. Move upward to find and collect the last hidden bee.
Finding all those hidden bee locations in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will give you a better chance of beating the lair. There are 48 bees to collect, and 30 is a recommended minimum number with which to attempt the lair. True completionists should try to beat the lair and collect all the bees in the game.
