It’s already been over a month since Proxies took their first steps into New Eridu and today the Zenless Zone Zero team held a quick Special Program for Version 1.1, Undercover R&B. Not only will this update add a new Special Episode of the main story but it will also add three new playable characters, a new S-Rank Bangboo, a bunch of new events, and, of course, plenty of new ways to earn tons of Polychrome.
Before we dig into the meat of the livestream, the ZZZ team did give away one redemption code which players can use to instantly get 300 Polychromes, 30,000 Dennies, 2 Senior Investigator Logs and 3 W-Engine Energy Modules. The code is UNDERCOVERRNB and you have until tomorrow to redeem it, otherwise, all those sweet rewards will go to waste.
First things first, Version 1.1 of Zenless Zone Zero is set to add a new Special Episode of the storyline centred on the Public Security Faction. We had some brief dealings with N.E.P.S. in Version 1.0 as we helped officers Zhu Yuan and Qingyi deal with several mysterious cases but, in the upcoming versions, we’ll be helping them take on the dreaded Mountain Lion Gang. Alongside Zhu Yuan, Qingyi, and newly introduced member Seth, you’ll work to uncover the truth behind the Gang’s plans, as well as their illusive new member, Jane Doe.
Alongside the Undercover R&B Special Episode, Version 1.1 is also set to add Qingyi’s Agent Story. Not only will this be a nice source of easy Polychrome but it’s also a way for players to get to know the aloof android officer outside of the main story.
Speaking of, Qingyi is one of three new playable characters joining the roster in Zenless Zone Zero Version 1.0. Qingyi is an S-Rank Electric Stunner, a combination currently only cornered by Anby, who uses her three-section staff to deliver a series of relentless attacks against her foes, dealing high amounts of Stun and Daze DMG. Additionally, Qingyi will accumulate Flash Connect Voltage as she deals Electric DMG, which she can unleash to perform a powerful blow once she has gathered enough.
The other S-Rank coming in Version 1.1 is the mysterious Jane Doe of the Mountain Lions. She’s our first S-Rank Physical Anomaly unit and she specialises in lightning-quick attacks which inflict a lot of Anomaly build, allowing Jane to trigger Assault incredibly easily. As Jane attacks, she builds up Passion Stream to trigger the Passion State. In this state, Jane can launch a series of fast attacks which deal increased Anomaly build-up and let her deal more damage.
Finally, the only new A-Rank of Version 1.1 is Seth, a fellow N.E.P.S. officer alongside Zhu Yuan and Qingyi. Seth is our second Defence unit in Zenless Zone Zero and our first Electric Defence character. Like Ben, Seth can block damage and give his teammates a shield buff using his shield, which he can then transform, Charge Blade-style, into a massive greatsword which deals Electric DMG.
- Jane Doe, Physical Anomaly
- Seth Lowell, Electric Defence
So, when will these awesome new characters be available? Well, in Phase 1 of Version 1.1 of Zenless Zone Zero, Qingyi will be the featured S-Rank Agent on the Limited Signal Search, with Billy and Corrin being rate-up A Ranks. Her signature W-Engine, Ice-Jade Teapot (Stun), will also be available during this period.
Meanwhile, in Phase 2, Jane Doe will take over for Qingyi on the main Signal Search, while her W-Engine, Sharpened Stinger, will take over the W-Engine Signal Search. Seth and his W-Engine will appear on rate-up on Jane’s banner, as well as Anby, the most monotone member of the Cunning Hares.
1.1 will also add a new Bangboo for the Criminal Investigation Special Response Team called Officer Cui. You can pull this new S-Rank Bangboo from the Bangboo Signal Search.

Lastly, there are several events and updates scheduled to arrive throughout ZZZ Version 1.1. First and foremost, a new addition to Hollow Zero known as Inferno Reap will start in 1.1. In this mode, players who have already successfully beaten Niverna in Withering Gardnes can skip straight to that climactic final battle without needing to go through the TV sections. Additionally, players can impose strict restrictions or time limits on their fight to earn new rewards and lots of Polychrome.
As for actual events, 1.1’s main event is Camellia Golden Week. This popular summer festival keeps Public Security very busy, giving scores of Proxies and Hollow Raiders free time to plunder various Companion Hollows. By completing various Event Commissions, players can score a free A-Rank W-Engine, Gilded Blossom, as well as a bunch of Polychrome, upgrade resources, and more.
Other events coming in 1.1 include First Class Customer Service where you’ll help customers repair their broken video players in a short rhythm game, Daily Life of a PubSec Officer which involves helping out the citizens of New Eridu with more mundane tasks in a style similar to Papers, Please, and Scene One, Shot One! which is a neat photography event similar to those seen in Hoyo’s other games.

- Camellia Golden Week Event
Alongside all of that, Version 1.1 will also have two separate log-in campaigns. During the first, Proxies can log in for 7 days to claim 10 Encrypted Master Tapes, whereas, in the second, they can log in for a week to claim 10 free Bangpons.
To close, the Zenless Zone Zero team also discussed some upcoming optimisations and alterations in future patches. The main was that, in the not-so-distant future, we’ll be able to explore New Eridu as our favourite Agents, not just Belle or Wise: we’ll even get a sneak peek of this feature in the Underground R&B Special Episode with Jane Doe. They also spoke about deepening the combat experience and optimisation certain parts of the game.
Zenless Zone Zero Version 1.1 launches on August 14th 2024.
