During their May 2023 games showcase event, Marvelous announced several new titles. Among them is what appears to be a sequel to their 2019 mecha-action game, Daemon X Machina. Details are mostly under wraps for now, with nothing more than the title, Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion known. The release window of the game also currently remains unannounced. The trailer, clocking in at around a minute and a half, reveals very little about the title, but all the signs point to a brand new game, with more giant robot action.
The original title, Daemon X Machina, was first released for the Nintendo Switch in 2019. Following that, it was ported to Windows PC in 2020. If you have an Epic Games account, you may have even received it for free back in January 2022. A key selling point of the game was the presence of former FromSoftware staff. This added a real legitimacy to the game’s goal of filling the void left behind by the Armored Core series. It did its job admirably, though critics weren’t too kind to it. There was plenty of room for improvement, so a sequel that gives them the opportunity to iron out those flaws is very good to see.
More details should hopefully arrive soon, but in the meantime mecha fans have their plates full (for a change). FromSoftware’s own Armored Core VI arrives later this year, as well as Megaton Musashi: Wired from Level-5, which should also see a worldwide release this year. It’s looking like a renaissance of sorts for the mech genre, after all these years. While we wait for Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion to arrive, we can ask ourselves – what even IS a Titanic Scion, anyway? Also, feel free to check out the flashy CG trailer right below:
