It has already been over a year since Blasphemous has released, so it’s a pleasant surprise to see more content announced. What makes its next update noteworthy, however, stems from the spiritual successor to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. On February 18, 2021, Blasphemous: Strife & Ruin received a crossover with Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night – featuring its protagonist, Miriam.
For reasons unknown, Miriam has found herself transported to the world of Cystodia. It is up to the player to help her back, but it won’t be easy. You must carefully navigate treacherous mazes to find the pieces to the portal. Of course, Miriam won’t be sitting idle. Although she shows up very briefly in the trailer’s gameplay, she appears to aid the player with her own spells.
Another highlight of the trailer is the Demake Area. This area contains an 8-bit pixel art aesthetic that pays homage to NES platformers. The update also includes a Boss Rush mode and Korean language support.
Seeing as both games are Metroidvanias with bloody and gothic imagery, the crossover fits very well. Whether the content has weight, on the other hand, will soon to be seen. We don’t know the extent of Miriam’s attacks and the size of the Demake, but the prospects are exciting nonetheless.
You can purchase Blasphemous for Steam, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
