Blasphemous is one of the best metroidvanias that have come out in recent years. If you’ve spent a couple of hours, you’ll realize the game is more complicated than it seems. Especially because of how unintuitive it is, in which depending on the decisions you make and the objects you have equipped for the final battle, you’ll obtain any of the three available endings.
But, how do you know which items will get you which ending? Or, what is the canonical ending of the game? If it is your first time playing this game, and you don’t paying attention to your equipped items and the decisions you make, you’ll probably end with the Bad Ending. Yes, it doesn’t matter if you managed to defeat the final boss. If the Penitent One does not climb the slope and is swallowed by the ash, you got the Bad Ending.
If this was your case, you have nothing to worry about. In this guide, we will teach you how to achieve the other two endings, which have a much more satisfactory outcome, if you follow the steps to achieve the True Ending, you will find yourself with a climactic finale worthy of the crusade you embarked on with our brave Penitent One.
Remember that you can buy Blasphemous on the Steam page and also play its mobile version on the Google App Store.
The Three Endings of Blasphemous
Paying homage to the games of yesteryear, Blasphemous is a Spanish metroidvania that features three different endings that greatly enrich the experience of replaying it, because there is nothing more satisfying and fun than a game with multiple endings; especially when these are unlocked depending on the actions you take throughout the story. The story of Blasphemous is not that complicated, but it has a few secrets that only a savvy player can discover.
The Game Kitchen, the team behind the creation of the game, knows what we, the players of metroidvanias, enjoy, and paying homage to other games that defined the genre like the Castlevania series, they decided to emulate a similar experience by adding these three different endings. On one hand, as previously mentioned, we have the Bad Ending. It is basically achieved if you go through the entire game without paying attention to the details and focusing only on finishing the story. If you did the above, don’t be surprised if the Penitent One cannot climb the ash slope.
Now, the other two endings have much more satisfying outcomes. The second, the Good Ending, is a passable conclusion, which previously had been the canonical ending of the game until the Wounds of Eventide DLC was released; which is the one that tells the true ending of this incredible story.
How to Get the Good Ending
The Immaculate Bead
Very well, let’s get to work. To achieve the True Ending, it will be necessary to first find the following object: The Immaculate Bead. This bead absorbs our guilt upon death, and we can specifically find it in the room where we can cleanse our guilt in the Graveyard of the Peaks.
Once it is in our possession, we will equip it and try to die three times. With each death, the account will become corrupted and incidentally change its name:
- Immaculate Bead
- Bead Marked by Guilt
- Bead Tainted by Guilt
- Weight of True Guilt. This will be the object we need to obtain the Good Ending and the True Ending.
Statues of Confessors
Now that we have the Weight of True Guilt equipped, we will proceed to search for each of the Statues of Confessors scattered throughout the game. Surely you have already visited them, they are the ones that cleansed our guilt each time we encountered one. Well, let me tell you that these statues hide a secret inside. If you break them, a red summoning circle will appear, can interact with it using the Weight of True Guilt.
The location of each of the statues is as follows:
- Mercy Dreams
- Grievance Ascends
- Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow
- Mother of Mothers
- Library of the Negated Words
- Wall of the Holy Prohibitions
- Graveyard of the Peaks
- Location of the Statue in the Cemetery of the Peaks
- Location of the Statue in the Wall of the Holy Prohibitions
- Location of the Statue in the Library of the Forbidden Words
- Location of the Statue of Mother of Mothers
- Location of the Statue in the Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow
- Location of the Statue in the Grievance Ascends
- Location of the Statue in the Mercy Dreams
Once you interact with the red summoning circle, you will appear in a parallel dimension where you will face a bunch of different enemies, which vary and increase in difficulty depending on the area in which you access the portal. The more statues you break, the harder the fights will be. But don’t worry, they won’t be as complicated compared to the boss fights.
When you have finally completed each of the challenges of the statues, you will obtain the Cvstodia of Sin, the item that will allow us to unlock the Good Ending; equip it and go directly to face Crisanta, as long as you have already explored all the areas of the map.
After defeating Crisanta, you will face the final boss, who is none other than the priest Escribar, who in the second phase of the fight becomes the Last Son of the Miracle. When you defeat him, you will obtain a passable ending that in some way justifies the time invested in the game. However, if you really want to achieve the canonical ending, you will have to complete a few more tasks.
How to Get the True Ending
To achieve this ending, it will be necessary for you to apply what has already been explained in the Good Ending and meet a few more requirements so that our Penitent One unlocks all his potential. It should be noted that this ending is included in the DLC Wounds of Eventide, which is supposed to be pre-installed in the game. Assuming you already have it, let’s continue.
I must also warn you that for this ending to occur, you should not have killed Esdras when you faced him at the Bridge of the Three Calvaries; therefore, if this was not the case, you will not be able to continue and will have to start a new game. So, make sure not to confront Esdras when you meet him and instead let’s go look for his sister’s tomb.
Obtain the Key Grown From Twisted Wood
- In Echoes of Salt, you will find a place called Resting place of the sister, where you will talk to the ghost of Perpetva and she will give us an item called Incomplete Scapular.
- Once in our possession, we must take it to Esdras so that he will cease to fight against us and instead thank you for reuniting him with his sister. After the dialogue, you will obtain the Taranto to My Sister prayer.
- Subsequently, we will have to go to the Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow, right in one of the first areas we traverse in the game, where we will have to climb to the top and with the help of the Blood Perpetuated in Sand relic, we will cross the area by jumping until we reach said room.
- Once inside, we will speak again with Esdras, who will give us a new item: the Key Grown from Twisted Wood.
- Next, we will head to the Library of the Negated Words to speak with an NPC named Diosdado, who is the guardian that guards the library, who will tell us that he hears a strange noise; once we find the source of said noise, we will return to him and hand him the Key Grown from Twisted Wood, and a door will open before us allowing us to enter a new room.
Knot of Three Words Quest
- In this room, we will encounter the roots of the Knot of Three Words, who after telling us a brief story will ask us to help find its eyes.
- We obtain those eyes by defeating Sierpes, the boss found in Mourning and Havoc; and Isidora Voice of the Dead. We can access them after delivering collected bones throughout the game to the person in charge of the Ossuary.
- This room is very easy to find since it is located beneath the Albero hospital.
The Final Battle
Once we have defeated Serpents and Isidora, whose battles are the most difficult in the game, we will obtain the eyes that we will give to the roots of the Knot of Three Words. He, very grateful, will give us the Apodictic Heart of Mea Culpa. The item that allows unlocking the full potential of our sword and with which we can access the True Ending of the game.
- Before facing Crisanta, make sure to equip the Apodictic Heart of Mea Culpa. By doing this, once we defeat her, she will rise again with much more power and increased difficulty.
- When we manage to defeat her, the chains that imprison her will appear and we will have to break them to be able to free her. She will thank us and will allow us to continue on our path towards the final boss, Escribar.
- Before facing him, it will be necessary to return to the same room of the Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow that we had previously accessed, where we will find Esdras again but this time accompanied by Crisanta, and he will give us the Holy Wound of Abnegation.
- And finally, we are done. What remains would be to face Escribar again and let you enjoy the surprises that this new game ending contains. I assure you that it will be much more epic, with increased difficulty in the three different phases of the battle, and with a conclusion worthy of the story of the crusade of our brave Penitent One.
