Best Ways of Obtaining Inter-Knot EXP in Zenless Zone Zero

Completing Commissions

First and foremost, most of your large injections of Inter-Knot EXP (known in-game as Inter-Knot Credits) in Zenless Zone Zero will come from completing commissions. These are your main story and side quests and they always award Inter-Knot EXP (as well as Polychrome and other resources) on a first-time completion.

There are three commission types in Zenless Zone Zero, each of which generally awards between 350 and 550 Inter-Knot EXP:

  • Story Commissions (Main Chapter Missions + Agent Side Story Missions)
  • Explore Commissions
  • Combat Commissions

Of course, there is a finite amount of quests available so you’ll eventually run out of things to complete. Until that point, though, there will almost always be at least one commission for you to complete somewhere out in the world. To easily find new commissions, head to the map and hover over each of the available locations: if there’s a commission available to accept, there will be a blue exclamation mark as well as a number informing you of how many commissions are available in that area.

Using Battery Charge

Aside from commissions, the main method of obtaining Inter-Knot EXP is consuming Battery Charge. Think of Battery Charge as your Resin or Trailblaze Power equivalent, acting as a rechargeable resource which you can spend in certain activities to obtain resources for your Agents.

These activities are extremely important as they allow you to obtain the resources used to increase your Agent’s level, enhance their skills, improve their W-Engines, and more. Battery Charge can be spent in several places and, generally, you’ll obtain 100 Inter-Knot per 10 Battery Charge spent. The places where you spend Battery Charge in ZZZ are:

  • HIA Club Combat Simulation (20 to 100 Battery Charge)
  • Routine Cleanup (60 Battery Charge)
  • Expert Challenge (40 Battery Charge)

You can naturally hold up to 240 Battery Charge, with Charge regenerating at a rate of 1 Battery Charge every six minutes, or 10 Charge per hour. If you use every bit of Charge you get per day, you can see gains of 2,400 Inter-Knot EXP.

Additionally, as you explore New Eridu and complete activities, you’ll likely stumble across Ether Batteries, consumables which instantly regenerate 60 Battery Charge. There’s also your daily coffee which awards an extra 60 Battery Charge per day for free. If you just care about levelling up quickly and don’t want to conserve these resources for endgame grinding, then use your Ether Batteries right away whenever you get one for 600 easy EXP.

Finish Daily Errands

Every day when you log in to Zenless Zone Zero, you’ll be met with a batch of new daily Errands in the Compendium. Errands function almost identically to Daily Training in Honkai: Star Rail and Commissions in Genshin Impact, allowing you to earn some easy rewards each day by completing specific tasks.

In ZZZ, those daily tasks range from simply logging into the game to trying one coffee to redeeming your scratch card for the day. Compared to Hoyoverse’s other titles, the Errands are really relaxing and super simple. And, fortunately for our needs, a great source of Inter-Knot Credits as each completed Errand will give you 150 Inter-Knot for a maximum of 600 EXP per day if you complete all available Errands.

Furthermore, the Errands tab also has the Weekly Custom Schedule. As the name suggests, this is a feature you can only complete once a week but, in return, it gives an instant injection of 300 Inter-Knot EXP. The Weekly Custom Schedule will ask you to choose two errand-like activities from a list of around five, all of which are fairly simple. Then, once you’ve completed both, turn them in for some easy EXP and level-up resources.

Hollow Zero

Hollow Zero is one of Zenless Zone Zero’s main endgame pursuits, tasking you with exploring and clearing out the depths of the deadly Hollow Zero in a fun rogue-like activity. Similar to Star Rail’s Simulated Universe, there are multiple locations within Hollow Zero and you have a specific score which resets each week, granting you access to new rewards and goodies like Polychromes.

However, what we’re interested in is Inter-Knot EXP and, fortunately, Hollow Zero is one of the best sources of it. The first time you complete a stage in Hollow Zero, you’ll be rewarded with 600 Inter-Knot EXP. The first two Hollow Zero zones – the Old Capital Metro and the Construction Ruins – have five and four levels each, meaning that you can get upwards of 5400 Inter-Knot EXP from these levels alone.

In total, there are currently five Hollow Zero zones in Zenless Zone Zero Version 1.0, with expectations of more coming shortly. Of course, once you complete all of the zones for the first time, you’ll run out of Inter-Knot opportunities within Hollow Zero. However, considering that it’s an endgame pursuit and that most of the zones aren’t even available at Inter-Knot Level 30, it should remain a healthy source of EXP for a good while yet.

Notorious Hunts (Weekly Bosses)

The final continuous source of Inter-Knot EXP is the Notorious Hunts. This is yet another feature of Scott Outpost alongside Hollow Zero and Shinyu Defence, and you’ll unlock it around Inter-Knot Level 25. As the name suggests, Notorious Hunts are combat encounters against some of the deadliest foes in Zenless Zone Zero and act as the game’s weekly bosses, similar to those seen in Honkai: Star Rail or Genshin Impact.

Each week, you’ll be able to complete up to three Notorious Hunts. Not only do these Hunts award extremely useful materials which are used to increase the level of Agent’s Core Skills, but they also award Inter-Knot EXP. To be more specific, one successful Notorious Hunt will net you 400 Inter-Knot EXP.

And the best part? Notorious Hunts don’t cost any Battery Charge to complete. Unlike their predecessors in HSR and Genshin Impact, the weekly bosses in ZZZ are completely free, allowing you to continue spending your Battery Charge on more important resources while still benefitting from all the goodies the Hunts have to offer.

How to Level Up Fast in Zenless Zone Zero

Similar to our recommendations for levelling fast in Honkai: Star Rail, the best way to quickly increase your Inter-Knot Level in Zenless Zone Zero is to ensure that you’re spending as much Battery Charge as possible without wasting it. This is alongside completing our Daily Errands and completing any new commissions or missions which come your way.

When it comes to what you should spend your Battery Charge on, we recommend prioritising Promotion and Skill Enhancement materials such as the Certification Seals from the Combat Simulations. While farming for Data Disks will become your normal once you hit the endgame, your levelling process should be focused on raising your character’s combat effectiveness as fast as possible: in total, you’ll want to focus your efforts on raising six Agents and two Bangboos, so choose your characters wisely.

Fortunately, as you’re levelling up your characters, you’ll be getting tons of Inter-Knot EXP while you’re at it. While there is some variance, 10 Battery Charge gets you 100 Inter-Knot EXP. So, spending 80 Charge on Promotion materials at the HIA translates to 800 EXP for your account.

As for why you should prioritise building characters over anything else, it’s all in service of helping you clear the upper echelons of Zenless Zone Zero’s core endgame modes, Shinyu Defence and Hollow Zero. As we mentioned earlier, first-time completions of new floors or areas in either of these activities will award a bountiful amount of Inter-Knot EXP, as well as Polychromes for more pulls on the gacha. However, the deeper you go, the tougher it becomes and, in both cases, you’ll eventually need to have two full teams ready to clear the upper levels.

Quick Level-Up Breakdown

For those who want a bit more specific guidance on what they should run to increase their Inter-Knot Credits quickly in ZZZ:

  1. Log on at the same time each day so that you spend all of the Battery Charge you’ve naturally accrued. Alternatively, log on several times a day to spend the Battery Charge as it hits each milestone (20, 40, 60, etc.). Either way, you should be spending 240 Battery Charge each day. That will total out to over 2400 Inter-Knot EXP a day.
  2. Buy your daily coffee for 60 additional Battery Charge, which will earn you another 600 Inter-Knot EXP.
  3. Use Ether Batteries whenever you get them for an instant injection of 60 Battery Charge, translating to another 600 Inter-Knot EXP.
  4. Complete your Daily Errands for easy EXP. Completing all four will net you another 600 Inter-Knot EXP.
  5. Use your Battery Charge to build and level your characters, allowing you to take on harder commissions as well as the tougher levels of both Shinyu Defence and Hollow Zero. First-time completion of levels within each of these activities awards substantial amounts of Inter-Knot EXP.
  6. Additionally, if you’re willing to spend Polychrome or real-world money, you can pay to regenerate Battery Charge up to eight times a day.

Alongside completing commissions whenever you get them, this is the best method to level up your Inter-Knot level fast in Zenless Zone Zero. Taking the finite methods of Inter-Knot EXP generation off the table (Hollow Zero, Shinyu Defence, Ether Battery charges), Proxies who stick to these steps can see gains of up to 3,600 Inter-Knot EXP a day.
