Echoes are one of the most important parts of Wuthering Waves. Not only do they heavily influence your unit stats and damage totals, but they also grant you access to powerful and special Echo Skills which can completely change the tide of a fight: if you’d like to learn more Echoes, including how they work and how to get more high rarity ones efficiently, then check out our Echo guide here on KeenGamer. However, there’s another aspect to Echoes that most Rovers won’t know about. I’m, of course, talking about Phantom Echoes.
You can think of Phantom Echoes as being similar to Shiny Pokemon. Phantom Echoes have a completely different colour scheme to their usual kind, giving them a rare sort of prestige. And just like Shiny Pokemon, there are going to be plenty of players searching near and far for a Phantom version of their favourite Echoes, which is easier said than done.
In this guide, we’ll go over everything you need to know about Phantom Echoes (aka Shiny Echoes) in Wuthering Waves, including where you can get them.

What are Phantom Echoes in Wuthering Waves?
As we mentioned in the introduction, Phantom Echoes are essentially the Wuthering Waves version of Shiny Pokemon. Phantom Echoes have a completely different colour scheme than ordinary Echoes. Additionally, an array of glowing sparkles will surround any Phantom when you encounter them out in the wild.
Let’s use Hoartoise as an example. Ordinarily, Hoartoise is a greyish-blue species of tortoise with a dark-coloured spikey shell. As a Phantom, though, they become almost pure white with a slightly iridescent shell. Putting the two side-by-side makes the comparison very apt and clear.
Phantom TDs are purely cosmetic and don’t offer any sort of stat bonuses or special main stats. However, they are always guaranteed to drop an Echo of themselves upon defeat so don’t worry about missing out on them. Simply beat them up, claim the Echo and the Phantom is yours.
How to Equip Phantom Echo Appearances
After acquiring a Phantom Echo, you will unlock the Phantom appearance option for every Echo of that type. Using the Hoartoise as an example once again, you will now be able to apply the Phantom appearance to any Hoartoise you’ve previously caught or will catch in the future.
To do so, head to the Relic Menu, select an Echo belonging to the same family as the Phantom you’ve acquired, and then click on the little monster face icon to the left of the Equip option. From here, you can choose to apply the Phantom appearance to that single Echo or to every Echo of that type. You can also view the Phantom version of the Echo in greater detail by going to the Data Bank’s Echo Gallery.
This is great for ensuring that you can appreciate and make use of the Phantom Echo’s unique appearance, even if the Echo itself isn’t very good or doesn’t have the stats you want.
How to Get Phantom Echoes
Random Chance
The first method of finding a Phantom TD in Wuthering Waves is just pure dumb luck. Like in Pokemon, any random Tacet Discord you meet out in the wild has a chance to appear as a Phantom.
As you may expect, the odds for a random Phantom TD to appear are extremely low. The only real evidence of them being able to appear at all is that the Phantom TD tooltip claims that these mutated Tacet Discords “can be randomly found in the world of Solaris-3”.
Unlike in the Pokemon games, there isn’t a Shiny Charm or any way to increase the rate of Phantom TDs, so this is literally down to luck and not much else. With over 50 unique Echoes in the game as of Version 1.0, it’s going to take a very, very long time to complete your Phantom collection.
Fixed Phantom Locations
The second, and most common, way of finding Phantom TDs is to visit certain spots on the map where the chances of Phantoms appearing seem to be much higher. These Fixed Phantom TD spots seem to work for almost every player.
So far, we’ve only found a small number of fixed Phantom TD locations.
- Phantom Hoartoise appear on either the banks near the Bell-Borne Geochelone fight or at the start of the stream north of the Giant Banyan.
- Phantom Rocksteady Guardians spawn on the edge of the Withering Frontline in the Desorock Highlands, the area where you fight the Thunder Mephis.
Furthermore, just because these locations have a higher chance of spawning a Phantom Echo it doesn’t mean one is guaranteed to appear every time you show up. Sometimes, you might get unlucky and have to come back the next day in hopes that one will respawn. However, compared to either of the two other methods – one being pure randomness and the other being an endgame grind – this is easily the best method to obtain a limited number of Phantom Echoes.
We’ll add any future Fixed Phantom TD spots to this guide once they are discovered.
Endgame Content (Points Shop)
The final method of Phantom hunting in Wuthering Waves involves several of its endgame pursuits, namely the Tower of Adversity, the Illusive Realm, and the Tactical Holograms. This method is how you’ll acquire Phantoms of Overlord class (World Boss) and, potentially, Calamity class (Weekly Boss) Echoes.
Each of the three endgame modes has a special shop dedicated to resources and currency you earn in that mode: in Tower of Adversity you earn Hazard Records, whereas as completing new Tactical Hologram stages will award Data Sets. Then, you can spend those resources on a variety of items including level-up resources, Tuners, and even Astrite. Most important to today’s discussion, though, is that you can obtain Phantoms of Overlords TDs via these shops. As bosses, this is the only way to get the Phantom appearance of these Echoes.
In Version 1.0 of Wuthering Waves, here are the Phantom Echoes available in each endgame shop:
- Tower of Adversity: Obtain 1,200 Hazard Records to obtain Phantom: Feilian Beringal
- Tactical Holograms: Obtain 2,500 Data Sets to obtain Phantom: Thundering Mephis and 3,500 Data Sets to obtain Phantom: Mourning Aix
- Illusive Realm: Clear Difficulty IV to unlock, then purchase the Phantom: Impermanence Heron for 400 Illusive Specimens
- Phantom Overlords in the Illusive Store
- Phantom Overlords in the Simulation Training Store
It’s important to note that for the two Point Shop Phantoms, you don’t need to purchase them, only acquire a certain amount of points in the various endgame modes. As such, you’re still free to spend your Hazard Records and Data Sets however you want without penalty.
Because you have to obtain these Phantoms from a shop, they will likely cycle between different Overlord Echoes for each version update. For example, the current Adversity Exchange lasts until the end of Version 1.0, at which point it’s likely that the Phantom Feilian Beringal will change into a different Overlord Echo, such as Phantom Inferno Rider. As such, be sure to complete all the endgame modes to their apex if you want to complete your Phantom collection.
That was everything you need to know about Phantom Echoes, also known as Shiny Echoes, in Wuthering Waves.
