With as many twists and turns as its predecessor, piecing together the true story of Man of Medan is easier said than done. Our guide will show you the locations of all secrets, as well as all framed premonitions. Follow closely to find out just what is really happening on the S.S. Ourang Medan.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan-Where To Find All Secrets and Premonitions

With around 60 secrets and 13 framed pictures, it’s easy to miss a few on your first, or even second, Man of Medan playthrough. The game does a good job of hiding things in small spaces and making them hard to locate without combing through everything. Luckily, our guide contains a comprehensive list of the location for each secret and pictures, as well as how exactly to find them in time. Following the list ahead will earn you 5 trophies for your troubles.

Before going forward, keep in mind that certain collectibles will not be available if certain characters die. You will need to be aiming to achieve the good ending of the game to unlock areas and whole chapters. Check out our guide on all of the Man of Medan endings to make sure you’re on the right track. White Framed Picture #2: High and Dry

Starting off as Alex, you’ll be walking around the Duke of Milan for the first time. While waiting for Julia to finish preparing the diving tanks, you can talk to Fliss, Brad, or Julia for some extra dialogue, or explore some more. Going downstairs into the lower section of the boat, you can see a framed picture on the wall.

Playing as Fliss, you’ll be able to explore the boat while Julia and Alex are diving underneath. Be careful though, this scene is the first of many to be on a hidden timer. Meaning, the next cutscene will trigger once the timer is up. It’s best to get the collectible before doing any other dialogue options. Going into the lower portion of the Duke, Fliss can open the door on the left, leading into her room. On the wall, is a Black Framed Picture. This room was previously locked for Alex.

Black Framed Picture #1: Devil and the Deep

Gaining control of Julia while diving, you’ll be exploring the wreckage of a military plane. Before going through the first open door, another Black Framed Picture will be propped up to your left. It’s not the easiest to spot, but the button prompt is hard to miss.

Secret #30: Flight Plan

Easy to Miss: Right after finding the Black Framed Picture as Julia, you’ll swim through the door and see an entrance to a tube above the next entryway. Going up to it will cause dialogue between Julia and Alex. While choosing CONCERNED will raise your relationship with Alex, choosing FLIPPANT is needed to get the collectible. As she is crawling through, there will be a QTE to grab a piece of paper. Once she is back out, you can examine it to get your first secret unlocked. Make sure that when you are looking at collectibles, you turn them to the backside or scroll through them. A message will pop up in the top left corner registering that you’ve found a secret.

As Julia and Alex continue their dive, they will swim through a circular portion of the plane. On the right side of the passage, you can see a bullet sticking out of the wall.

In the same passage as the last collectible. A little bit further up and to the left, is some storage shelving where one of the lifeboats is missing.

Chapter Six: Ghost Story

Playing as Julia back to the Duke, you will be tasked with getting the navigator pad, and a hidden timer will start. Pick up the camera and flick through it to look at photos from the dive. One of the pictures will be of the body from the plane’s cockpit. The secret here is the badge on his arm that the picture is zoomed into. 

Easy to Miss: Alex must pick up the camera in the chapter WRECK, otherwise there won’t be any pictures. This secret is also extremely bugged. Even while looking directly at it, there is a high chance that it won’t register as being found. Some players have said that quitting and restarting can help, but I have yet to get it that way. The other option is to play the Curator Cut or Shared Story. In those modes, Brad is the one searching for the navigator pad. Brad’s section isn’t bugged while Julia’s is.

If you have been working to get the best ending, then Conrad should still be with your group. If you had Conrad escape on the Pirate’s boat, you’ll be playing as Fliss instead. After entering onto the S.S. Ourang Medan, you’ll be forced down a linear path by the pirates. Wait until one of them starts rifling through some lockers. This secret is on top of a crate after the camera switches perspective. There haven’t been any reports of this secret being bugged in any way, but as I picked it up, it didn’t register and disappeared from the crate. It registered later on using the chapter select to re-discover it.

After the pirates lock the crew inside a room, you will start playing again as Conrad or Fliss. On the table where you first take control, is a newspaper.

Still in the room, on the table that Julia is sitting on, is this letter. The secret counts for the backside of it.

Right after the group removes the vent cover to escape the room, you’ll take control of Conrad once again, or play as Alex if Conrad escaped. Finding yourself in a corridor, this secret is in the first door to your left, on a metal table.

In the same corridor as the last one, Conrad/Alex will see Julia waiting by the door at the end of the hallway. Take a left right before the end to enter the restroom. In the last stall, is this letter lying on the ground.

Following Julia through the end door, you will be walking across a metal grated walkway. Go down the path until you see Alex waiting by another door. Turn left to face a mounted table. On top is a book. Make sure to fully swipe left and right to see every page.

Going through the doorway that Alex was standing beside, the next room is one filled with a few bunk beds. Head up and to the left until you pass a table with playing cards on it. On a metal table on the far end is another book.

From the last collectible of this chapter, walk to the opposite side of the room. On a bookshelf, you should see another Black Framed Picture.

Playing as Alex, you will enter into a big kitchen. On the far left side is a wall-length chalkboard covered in writing. Examining the schedule counts as your next secret.

In the same room, you should be able to see the white glimmer of another collectible on the far wall. This is another Black Framed Picture.

After the last room, Alex will enter a room we saw in the very first chapter. You will need to examine all 4 caskets in the room, starting with the bottom right to see a Casket Nameplate.

Still playing as Alex, after losing track of Conrad, you will enter the Med Bay. Julia will go through a doorway to the right, but make sure to continue straight forward to the operating room. In the left corner of the room is a surgeon’s corpse.

In the same room, there is a clipboard on the metal trolly next to the operating table. Flip it over to see evidence that a soldier died of a heart attack and hear Alex’s med student input.

Chapter Thirteen: Danny

You will start the chapter off as Fliss, being escorted by one of the Pirates, Danny. After following a linear corridor, a small cutscene will start where Danny will freak out from seeing a shadowy figure. The figure is revealed to be a hat on top of some bags, so when you take control of Fliss again, make sure to pick it up.

In the next room, after the last cutscene. Fliss will see a corpse on the ground that looks like it dies streaming. After a scene where Danny talks about the ghost still being on the ship with them, Fliss can kneel down to take a closer look at it.

White Framed Picture #3: Close Quarters

Right after the last secret, continue forward down the corridor. As you turn a corner, a White Framed Picture is on the wall directly to your right. However, when Fliss tries to look at it, Danny will push her away, causing you to continue. A little bit further ahead, Danny will start screaming and shooting his gun. Once he is gone, Fliss will pick up his flashlight and you’ll take control again. Backtrack to the painting before going forward.

Going forward you’ll come across the cargo hold with vehicles where the very first chapter left off. After dropping down into the room, head toward the back wall. Right next to the exit door is a slumped over corpse that has a dog tag right next to it.

Chapter Fourteen: Finding Friends

Missable Chapter: In order to get this chapter and the collectibles within it, Brad must have stayed on the Duke of Milan while the other boarded the Ourang Medan.

Starting as Brad on the Duke, you will eventually head up to the deck and climb onto the Ourang Medan. Continue on until you reach a narrow set of stairs, then open the doorway to your right at the top. This opens to a long corridor, this secret is in the second doorway on the right.

Right after getting the last note, backtrack to the first doorway that you passed. In here, a cutscene will play out showing a group of soldiers’ corpses, all with frightened looks on their faces. There is one corpse to the left of the screen with this badge on his arm.

Secret #4: Locks Memo

After going through a corridor with rows of lockers and corpses (and obtaining the gas mask), you will be in an area that requires you to climb on top of a box to go forward. Before doing that, head to the door near the box. This will trigger a QTE, and you must successfully hit the correct button to get the collectible. This note is on a shelf inside said room.

After climbing onto the box and over the wall, take the first room on the right. Another White Framed Picture will be hanging on the far right wall.

Secret #19: Radio Operator’s Memo

After finding the last collectible, continue forward until you reach the upper floor of the cargo hold. In the top left corner, there will be two corpses, one next to a box and one hanging. On top of the wooden box, is the Radio Operator’s Memo.

Easy to Miss: This entire chapter is on a hidden timer. After an amount of time, a cutscene will start, and you’ll be locked out of the collectibles. It’s best to go straight for the important ones listed here, before exploring further.
As Fliss, you will come into a large red ballroom. To the right of the stage is a small backroom. Inside, is this framed picture on the wall.

After examining the picture frame, pull the lever to open that stage. Behind the stage is a casket and a door leading outside. Go through the door to trigger a cutscene and come back in to see the room differently than before. Open the box in the middle to see a peek of the Manchurian Gold.

Secret #37: Broken Wires

Head back into what was the ballroom area, and look off to your left. There should be some water with sparking wires above it.

On the opposite side of the room as the last collectible, will be this booklet sitting on top of a barrel.

Chapter Sixteen: Pressure

Missable Chapter: This chapter entirely depends on your actions thus far. Fliss needs to take a breather outside of the ship and Brad needs to have the gas mask on him. This ensures that they recognize each other instead of seeing one another as demons.

Still as Fliss, her and Brad will continue on their way. Go on until you come across an opportunity to climb up onto a ledge. Before climbing up, walk toward the screen until you reach a corpse with this report next to it.

Starting off as Conrad, walk through the corridor you start in until you can go through the first room on the left. A map will be hanging on the back wall.

To the right of the previous secret is an adjoining room. This picture will be hanging on Conrad’s left.

After getting the last two collectibles, head back into the main corridor and into the room to the right. In the bottom right of the corner of this room will be a scrap of paper lying on a table.

Secret #15: Cargo Bill of Landing

Only available in Shared Story or Curator’s Cut: The following 4 collectibles aren’t available in the solo portion of Man of Medan. To get them, you’ll need to play the Shared Story mode or the Curator’s Cut. To find these, Fliss, Brad, and Conrad must all be in the same chapter together. This means you’ll need to do the following:

  • Conrad and Brad need to be on the Ourang Medan with everyone else, meaning Conrad didn’t take the speedboat, and Brad stayed hidden on the Duke.
  • Brad needs to find the gas mask, and Fliss needs to take a breather outside.
  • Make sure that the person controlling Fliss finds all of the collectibles before the one playing Conrad opens a locked door using the candle holder.

As soon as you gain control of Fliss, you will find this secret on a table directly to the left.

Continuing on as Fliss, head to the second room on the right to see this secret on a table.

Black Framed Picture #5: Ship Shape

Still as Fliss, this secret is within the room to the left. She can’t open it by herself, so Brad has to be with her for it to work. Brad will be with her as long as they both have cleared the Manchurian Mist from their bodies.

In the last room of the corridor, there will be a locked safe that holds the Manchurian Gold Test Results. There is a key on the table in the same room that will open said safe.

Playing as Alex, you will start the chapter right after running away from Olson. You and the rest of the crew will drop down onto the weather deck. A little ways forward will be a shell casing sitting on top of a wooden crate.

Continue forward until you can take a right turn to the side of the deck. In the corner will be a large white cabinet storage area. Open it up to find a corpse holding gas mask instructions.

After climbing up and over a ledge to leave the weather deck, you will go up some stairs and push open the Captain’s Cabin door. Scroll through the logbook on the table.

In the same room as the previous collectible, not yet at the radio. This scrap of paper is the last obtainable item before interacting with the radio.

Easy to Miss: Make sure to enter the room without heading toward the radio. Doing so will trigger a cutscene and lock you out of the collectible. Instead, walk to the corpse at the table and read his message.

Chapter Twenty-Two: Depths

Your character in this chapter depends on who you decide to take down into the lower levels of the ship. Continue forward the corridors until you find a wall labeled “Sick Bay”. After that enter the room on the left and look inside the open safe.

After the last secret, walk through the corridor until you reach the First Aid Sick Bay at the end. This medical report is on a table inside the said room.

Secret #8: Engine Room Telegraph Log

After dropping down the broken ladder and into the engine room. Look for a book behind the engine. If you reach the generator, you’ve gone too far. Be careful here, entering the next area will cause a cutscene to lock you out of this collectible.

White Framed Picture #6: Know The Ropes

East to Miss: Like I mentioned above, entering the room to the left of the power switch will cause a cutscene to start, moving the plot forward. Make sure to grab this collectible before going through the doorway.
Instead of going to the left of the power switch, head to the right. This entrance way blends in with the rest of the corridor, so it’s easy to overlook, but it is definitely there. At the end of this secret path is a white framed picture inside of a locker.

Secret #34: Military Orders

East to Miss: You must pass the Pulse QTE in order to get to this collectible. While failing it won’t end in death, messing it up will cause the characters to have to run away from the room hiding this secret.
After you see a cutscene of Olson stabbing Danny in the stomach, you will need to successfully complete a pule QTE. Afterward, you can enter the room you were just looking into, and grab this slip of paper from the right corner. There is a short timer here, so act quickly.

Missable Chapter: In order to unlock this chapter, Alex needs to be the one to go down into the hole, Otherwise you will be locked out of these collectibles.

Gold Framed Picture #1: A Little Hope

Once you gain control of your character, walk ahead until you reach a room with bunk beds. On the left side wall, is the one and only Gold Framed Picture.

Secret #36: Casket Shortage Memo

In the same room as the last collectible, but at the end of the room and to the right. Directly next to the locked door.

Chapter Twenty-Three: Matters of the Heart

Missable Chapter: Similar to obtaining the chapter OLSON, you will need to send particular people down into the hole to get this chapter. Instead of sending Alex down, make sure it’s Brad and Julia. This means it will take another playthrough, or a trip through chapter select to get both areas.

As Alex, after doing a QTE to jump over a rusted out floor, you will eventually see a cutscene of Olson dying from a heart attack. Once you get to the kitchen, take a left to see a corpse with the next secret by it. This is that last collectible available in the Theatrical cut!

Secret #46: Diplomatic Immunity Contract

Only available in Shared Story or Curator’s Cut: The following 3 collectibles aren’t available in the solo portion of Man of Medan. To get them, you’ll need to play the Shared Story mode or the Curator’s Cut.
The perspective will switch, and you’ll be playing as Fliss to find the last three secrets. To find this one, continue forward once you take control. After stepping outside for a moment, come back in to find this collectible to Fliss’ left.

Secret #12: ID Badges and Documentation

In the same area as the previous secret, this one is located inside an open safe to the right.

Secret #33: Toxins Research

Also in the same room as the other two, the very last secret can be found on a table to the right of the open safe.
