In Disney Dreamlight Valley, after getting the fishing pole early in the game, you’re able to cast your line anywhere in the water and hook a fish. However, more valuable fish types can only be caught in ‘Pools’ which have different colored ripples. Thus you have different fish to catch, and this guide is meant to help you catch them all, with exception to the limited time fish.
If you can’t reel in enough denizens of the deep, check out these guides!

Fish Types
This activity requires you to have 150 energy at the start of the game, however you can get it down to 120 after upgrading Moana’s Boat at level 10. Each upgrade is 2% and capped at 20% when her boat reaches level 10. You can also assign villagers a role when they reach level 2, so if you assign them the fishing role (except Ariel or Ursula), they have chance to drop extra fish or materials on the ground when any fish are caught while they’re following you. This also increases friendship when something is caught, and each level of friendship increases the rate of extra drops. So make sure to bring a villager along when fishing!

Crafting Materials
Every once in a while, instead of a fish you’ll get crafting materials. While not as exciting, they are ingredients to various recipes for craftable furniture! Because of this, they can have any ripple, and of course, can’t be eaten, so I won’t include those columns. If you catch Red Algae, it can be used to craft a special fishing bait that will turn any white ripple gold! Be sure to save up all the red algae you can, so you can craft the ‘Miracle Fishing Bait’ or the ‘Even More Miraculous Fishing Bait’ because they’re good for ten and twenty-five uses respectively!
