Bond is back with a bang in 007 First Light. Some players who’ve installed FL report that the game doesn’t start on their PCs. One such player said, “When I press Play, the button turns to Stop, but after about 10 seconds, it changes back to Play again, and the game doesn’t boot up.” This is how you can fix 007 First Light not launching on a Windows PC.
1. Set a High Performance GPU Preference
Start with the GPU preference fix if your PC has both integrated and dedicated graphics. Setting First Light to High performance forces Windows to launch the game with the stronger GPU. These are the steps for selecting the High Performance option:
- Click Search on the Windows 11 taskbar.
- Next, input graphics settings into the file finder tool.
- Select Graphics Settings inside the search results.
- Click the Add desktop app button.
- Select the 007FirstLight EXE game file and click Add.
- Click on the 007 First Light game added.
- Select High performance on the GPU preference drop-down menu setting.
2. Install Visual C++ Redistributable Packages
Install or repair the Visual C++ Redistributable packages to replace missing runtime files that the game needs at startup. Go through these steps to install Visual C++ runtime libraries:
- Open this Visual C++ page on Microsoft’s website.
- Click the X64 and X86 download options for the Visual C++ v14 Redistributable packages.
- Open the folder containing the two downloaded VC_redist files.
- Double-click the VC_redist.x64 file to run it.
- Click I agree > Install within the Microsoft Visual C++ window.
- Repeat the previous three steps for the X64 VC_redist file.
3. Verify 007 First Light Game Files in Steam
To verify the 007 First Light files, right-click the game in Steam’s Library tab and select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files. Wait for the verification to check for and repair corrupted/missing game files. This Steam support page includes more detailed instructions for applying this potential fix.
4. Update Graphical Drivers
Update your graphics driver next, especially on a PC with two graphics cards. Use KeenGamer’s driver-update guide to install the latest driver for your graphics card, restart Windows, and launch First Light again.
5. Disable Overlays
Turn off overlays before launching First Light. Check Steam, Discord, NVIDIA app, AMD Adrenaline, and MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner, then start the game again.
6. Run Steam or Epic With Admin Rights
Running Steam or Epic with admin rights will enable 007 First Light to bypass UAC restrictions that can block the game from launching. Although you can temporarily run Steam or Epic with elevated privileges, it’s better to set permanent admin rights. You can set permanent admin rights for Epic or Steam like this:
- Right-click the Steam or Epic Games Launcher desktop icon and select Properties.
- Select Run this program as an administrator by clicking on that checkbox.
- Click Apply to save settings and OK to exit.
7. Other Ways to Fix 007 First Light Not Launching
If First Light still does not start after the main fixes, move on to broader Windows and launcher checks. These extra steps target background conflicts, broken installations, custom launch settings, antivirus blocks, and missing Windows updates:
- Disable conflicting third-party background apps by applying a clean boot.
- Reinstall the 007 First Light game.
- Erase any custom launch parameters set in Steam or Epic Games.
- Temporarily disable antivirus tools before starting the game. If that works, add the 007 First Light game folder to the antivirus exclusion list.
- Update Windows 11 by installing optional patches via Settings.
Test the game again after each fix so you know which change solves the launch problem. If First Light still refuses to start, submit a support ticket through the official help page and include the fixes already tried.
