2025 is coming to an end, but the year still has some horror movies ready to frighten viewers. This December list of horror movies is rather small compared to previous months, but it’s just preparing us for January, which is incredibly stacked. All these films are releasing in the first two weeks of the month, likely to make way for the juggernaut that is Avatar: Fire and Ash. Even if it’s not a horror movie, it’s likely that it will slow the box office of any film crazy enough to compete with it.

5. Man Finds Tape
| Release Date | December 5th |
| Director | Paul Gandersman, Peter S. Hall |
| Main Cast | John Gholson, Kelsey Pribilski, William Magnuson |
| Duration | 84 minutes |
Synopsis
Siblings uncover a collection of strange and disturbing videotapes that prompts them to investigate their Texas town.
Overview
This is probably the December horror movie I’m personally most interested in. Man Finds Tape is a found footage film with an incredibly effective trailer that made me feel dirty to watch. It is sure to be the scariest movie on this list. The early buzz around this film is also very positive, which is promising since I feel as though most found-footage films don’t get the best reviews early on, only finding their audience later on streaming platforms. I’m not too familiar with the director’s previous work, but with a creepy trailer, none of that matters.
4. Silent Night Deadly Night
| Release Date | December 12th |
| Director | Mike P. Nelson |
| Main Cast | Rohan Campbell, Ruby Modine, Mark Asheson |
| Duration | 95 minutes |
Synopsis
Billy, a child who witnessed the death of his parents at the hands of Santa, dons Saint Nicholas’s costume and goes on a massacre to feed his twisted sense of justice.
Overview
If you’re looking for a horror movie but want a touch of Christmas spirit, then look no further than Silent Night Deadly Night. The plot synopsis to this film is bizarre, and while I’m not entirely sure what to expect from the story here, the trailer promises a bunch of bloody kills. Slasher fans might want to check this one out when it drops on December 12th.
3. Dust Bunny
| Release Date | December 12th |
| Director | Bryan Fuller |
| Main Cast | Mads Mikkelsen, Sigourney Weaver, David Dastmalchian |
| Duration | 106 minutes |
Synopsis
A young girl asks her mysterious man for help in killing the monsters under her bed, whom she believes are responsible for the murder of her parents.
Overview
The premise of Dust Bunny sounds a little comical, but also unique. It sounds like a fairytale story more than anything else. What has me so intrigued is the good word of mouth surrounding this film and the inclusion of not only Mads Mikkelsen, but also Sigourney Weaver. It probably won’t be the scariest movie on this list, most likely leaning more into action than horror, but judging from the trailer, this looks like it will be one hell of a good time at the theaters.
2. Influencers
| Release Date | December 12th (Shudder) |
| Director | Kurtis David Harder |
| Main Cast | Cassandra Naud, Georgina Campbell, Lisa Delamar |
| Duration | 110 minutes |
Synopsis
A young woman’s intrigue in murder and theft leads her down a chilling path.
Overview
Influencers is actually a sequel to the 2023 thriller Influencer, continuing to follow the story after the events of the first film. I thought the first movie was quite a surprise. I wasn’t anticipating liking it as much as I did. It wasn’t a very scary film per se, but it did have some tense moments that had me become slightly more suspicious of people. The first film had a spotlight on social media, and I’m curious to see if Influencers will also have that angle or not. Regardless, this is sure to be a fun and suspenseful ride when it releases on Shudder next month.
1. Five Nights At Freddy’s 2
| Release Date | December 5th |
| Director | Emma Tammi |
| Main Cast | Josh Hutcherson, Piper Rubio, Elizabeth Lail |
| Duration | 104 minutes |
Synopsis
Mike’s 11-year-old sister sets out to learn the truth of what happened a year ago in Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, reconnecting the old animatronics and setting in motion a series of terrifying events.
Overview
I was personally not in love with the first movie, but it seems as though many enjoyed it. The audience score for the first film is sitting at a mighty 86, and it made almost 300 million at the box office…with only a 20 million dollar budget. They’re going to continue pumping out these movies, and placing the title in December with little competition is a surefire way of locking that in. Let’s hope this brings more scares or more of an interesting story this time around.
