The Thing: Remastered is rumoured to be releasing on December 5th.

Although yet to be confirmed, The Thing: Remastered is listed on Xbox Wire among games releasing in the first week of December. If you hadn’t guessed, The Thing: Remastered is a remaster of 2002 videogame The Thing. Despite sharing a name, the game isn’t an adaptation, but instead more of a sequel to the 1982 film.

Taking control of Captain Burke, you see the aftermath of the carnage and aim to find out what happened at Outpost 31. As with most remasters, The Thing: Remastered will bring enhanced visuals and improved gameplay, with access to a range of weapons with limited ammo to aid in your survival. Among Ashes releases on December 9th for PC and PS5.

Among Ashes is promising to deliver one of the most intriguing concepts on this list, and potentially in the genre – which is high praise considering the levels of skill and innovation we have been seeing in the indie horror scene. The meta narrative places you at an early 2000s desktop, where you receive a message from a friend containing a link to an online horror game, Night Call.

The game within a game is reminiscent of the original Resident Evil, navigating the halls of an old manor as you solve puzzles and shoot down monsters. Its all fun and discovering a new game with a friend, until its not. Playing Night Call comes with its demons, both figuratively and literally as entities separate themselves from the game and enter your reality. Whatever happens, you must keep playing. If you can’t wait to have demons visit your home, Among Ashes has a demo available on Steam.

10 Dead Doves takes you on a journey along the Appalachian trail with old friends Marcus and Sean. Old friends with each other that is – not you. The player gains control of Marcus with the WASD tank controls, stumbling through the wilderness using the mouse to interact with items of interest.

Despite the wholesome premise of hiking with pals, 10 Dead Doves has an ominous tone and a concerning number of dead birds. The creepy vibes are amplified by low-res visuals and Mark’s nightmares of an anthropomorphic bird as they near the truth of an urban legend. If you would like to fact check the number of dead doves, there’s a demo available on Steam.

Alien: Rogue Excursion will be available for PSVR2, Meta Quest 3, and Steam VR from December 19th.

Fans of the Alien franchise can fully immerse themselves among the Xenomorphs with Alien: Rogue Incursion, a VR exploration of the Alien universe. Players can fill the helmet of Zula Hendricks as she sets out an expedition to find her missing friend and squad mate. Track and avoid the xenomorphs as you make your way to Gemini Exoplanet Solutions research facility.

In VR you’ll be relying on your own quick reflexes and stealth skills to avoid detection as naturally, these extraterrestrials are highly intelligent, adapting to the environment and your actions to bring about your grisly demise. You are equipped with an arsenal of some firearms though, which should help to prolong the inevitable.
