The final month of summer begins, yet despite official spooky season being only around the corner, the horrors still keep coming. This month we have a healthy dose of the undead with House of the Dead 2: Remake and World War Z VR, unique art styles in the cartoon form of Bendy: Lone Wolf and pixel art Carnival, and PlayStation owners are finally able to experience the second part of Senua’s harrowing journey in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2.

House of the Dead 2 Remake is coming to PC and Nintendo Switch on August 7th, with console release at a later date.
The 1998 arcade shooter House of the Dead 2 is getting the same remake treatment as its predecessor, bringing nostalgic gameplay, remastered soundtracks and chaotic co-op carnage. Play as one of two investigators as they make their way through hoardes of undead to find the root of the outbreak. With branching levels, co-op play and training scenarios, there should be plenty of hours of rail shooter fun for you to indulge in in House of the Dead 2: Remake.

While having been available to Xbox and PC users since May 2024, PlayStation owners who are fans of the original Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice can rejoice as they can continue Senua’s Saga on PlayStation 5 from August 12th. Optimised for PS5 and the DualSense controller, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 delivers another cinematic experience, as Senua battles with her symptoms of psychosis and the player battles draugr and other mythical evils.

The World War Z franchise is one of many adaptations; now, the book turned film turned game turns to VR. While sharing a name however, World War Z VR is an experience developed specifically for VR. You can chose from seven playable characters to take on massive swarms of zombies, who adapt to the environment and your playstyle as you progress through each of the game’s recreated cities. As I understand it, Bendy: Lone Wolf is a revamp of Boris and the Dark Revival, seeing you again playing as Boris in the twisted cartoon halls of an animation studio, with a rogue like twist. Navigate your way through the procedurally generated corridors, finding resources and setting traps to aid you in avoiding the Ink Demon. Long time players of the franchise who own Boris and the Dark Revival on Steam will receive a free copy of Bendy: Lone Wolf upon release.
