It’s been a long time coming, but the Shang-Chi trailer is finally here. The son of the Mandarin, Shang-Chi, raised to be an assassin for the Ten Rings organisation since childhood, must face his past ten years after building a life away from his father. Starring Kim’s Convenience‘s Simu Liu as the titular hero, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the first Marvel film with an Asian lead. The trailer below is just a teaser, mind you, but since this first look was released on his birthday, Liu was still quick to express excitement towards his part in the film.
Whoever said that you could only RECEIVE presents on your birthday? Today, I’m giving you your VERY FIRST LOOK at the teaser poster for @ShangChi and the Legend of the Ten Rings!!
Coming to theatres September 3rd (trailer drops in a few weeks).

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has got some other big names in its cast, too: Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh, Fala Chen, and one of cinema’s biggest Asian stars, Tony Leung Chiu-wai, as The Mandarin. This leader of the Ten Rings has been mentioned as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the very beginning in 2008’s Iron Man.
After the controversy over a fake Mandarin, portrayed by Ben Kingsley in Iron Man 3, it’s a thrill to finally see the role cast and done right. With its historical significance, fast-paced fight choreography and deeper connections to the MCU as a whole, this Kung Fu-featured superhero flick will not be one to miss.
What do you think of the Shang-Chi trailer? Will you be dropping into cinemas on the 3rd of September?
As a movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is certainly starting off well in terms of marketing. It’s interesting when comparing it to one of Marvel’s latest games, Marvel’s Avengers – which my colleague, Gavin Hart, thought was let down by its own marketing.
