SEGA has announced that Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown, an updated version of the previous Virtua Fighter 5, will be releasing on June 1st. It will be free for Playstation Plus members, and Playstation Now members will be able to get it later in the month. This announcement comes as SEGA is celebrating their 60th anniversary as a company.
Despite following the design of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, SEGA will be adding a bit to this new version. Along with updated visuals and new background music, the game will increase lobby size from 8 to 16, and add tournament mode, allowing players to face off in pre-designed brackets. This new version will also add a spectator mode, which will allow players in a lobby to watch two people battle.
Virtua Fighter has remained one of fighting games’ most venerable franchises, despite not having an entry in years. You can play some of the games in arcade machines in the massive Yakuza franchise. You can also play as four of the characters in Dead or Alive 5, which has kept the franchise in the eyes of gamers. Thankfully, with this new entry, SEGA seems interested in bringing it back to its former glory.
