Sega Is Delisting Over 60 Classic Games Next Month

Sega will be delisting over 60 of their classic games by next month. On the 6th of December at 11:59pm PST, the games will be removed from digital storefronts. Several of the games in the list are fan-favorite and have been part of many players’ childhoods such as Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio.

Sega Is Delisting Over 60 Classic Games Next MonthSega has recently announced that it is delisting over 60 classic games by next month. The games will be removed from digital storefronts such as Steam, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation. The decision will take effect starting from 6th of December at 11:59pm PST. This means that by then, the over 60 classic games being delisted by Sega will no longer be available for purchase. However, if any of these games are already in your library, you will be able to keep downloading and playing them.

In a FAQ, Sega clarified that “select individual classic titles” will still be playable for anyone who has a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Other than that, these classic games and bundles will be delisted and “unavailable for new purchases.” Steam will be the most affected since it has a majority of these classic games being delisted. Xbox has lesser classic Sega games that are set to be delisted. While Nintendo Switch and PlayStation will only lose SEGA® Genesis Classics™.

What Are Some of the Over 60 Games That Sega Is Delisting

There are many classic games included in Sega’s sudden and unexplained delisting. Some of the titles that will be removed from Steam include Crazy Taxi, Dreamcast Collection Bundle, Golden Axe 1 & 2 & 3, Streets of Rage 1 & 2 & 3. While the games getting delisted from Xbox include Virtua Fighter 2, Sega Genesis Classics, and Crazy Taxi. Nintendo Switch and PlayStation users will also be affected. This is because SEGA® Genesis Classics™ includes over 50 old Genesis games.

Sega hasn’t explained the reasoning behind delisting over 60 classic games. Some think that it has to do with the planned reboots for Crazy Taxi, Shinobi, Jet Set Radio, and more. All planned reboots include games that are part of the ones getting delisted. Previously, Sega has removed several classic Sonic games in preparation for releasing Sonic Origins.

Whether this delisting of over 60 games has to do with upcoming reboots or not, players still can purchase the games before their removal. Surely, Sega has a good reason behind this mass delisting. Earlier this year, Sega announced a crossover event between Sonic the Hedgehog and Angry Birds. If more events like this were included in any future releases then perhaps fans won’t mind this sudden delisting of classic childhood games.
