Mafia: The Old Country, which first released on August 7, will be getting a completely free update on November 20th across all platforms. This isn’t a typical bug-fixing update, but one that adds a ton of new bonus content to enhance the gaming experience. This update doesn’t add any new story missions, but it still offers plenty of content to expand the game. Let’s go through everything that’s being included.
New Free Ride Mode Challenges
Free ride mode already exists in Mafia: The Old Country, allowing you to explore the vast world Enzo occupies and completing a few collectible tasks. However, with the new update, two new challenges have been added: Horse and Car Races, and Combat Challenges.
Challenges are unlocked by playing the main story. You can access Free Ride Mode via the main menu, as well as the pause menu.
For each type of challenge, there are three reward tiers. As you complete each challenge and rank up, you unlock better rewards, including increasing Dinari (in-game currency) to spend at Pasquale’s store.
Races
There are two types of races in Mafia: The Old Country: horse races and car races. To start a race, you need to do one of the following, depending on the race:
- Horse Race – Speak to Gaspare
- Car Race – Speak to Pasquale
Further dividing up these two categories are four subcategories of races, each with three challenge tiers of completion (except for Time Trials, which have six), which are:
- Circuit Race – Complete a set number of laps against competing racers
- Road Sprint – Race against other drivers through checkpoints
- Time Trial – Try to beat the clock and your personal best while dealing with rival opponents. This type of race comes in two forms: Checkpoint (along a set path) and Freeform (fastest route across two points).
- Horse Race – Use your expert knowledge of horse riding and racing with perfectly-placed spurs as you try to beat the competition.
Combat Challenges
The other type of challenge focuses on combat, which you can start by speaking to Valerio.
There are two types of combat challenges, which include:
- Standoff (5 challenges) – You must survive endless waves of enemies by keeping watch of your resources and your positioning. By looting stopwatches from fallen enemies, you can add seconds to your time.
- Assassination (4 challenges) – If you’re more of a stealth player, put your skills to the test with these challenges, where you must take out a specific target at a location within a given time, plus escape alive. You can also crack and loot safes for extra points.
New Weapons, Cars, Charms, and Outfits
Equip Enzo with a host of new items and possessions, including weapons, cars, charms, and outfits. More specifically, the following has been added with the update:
- 16 new outfits (plus 3 new hats, available to equip with any outfit)
- 4 new knives
- 3 new guns
- 3 new charms
- 2 new cars
Notably, one charm in particular has a unique and useful ability, especially for collectible hunters. If you equip the new Esploratore, it will help you locate nearby collectibles, including those elusive silver fox statues.
First-Person Driving
For the first time in the history of the Mafia franchise, first-person driving is coming to Mafia: The Old Country. This is available in campaign mode and free ride mode, whether you’re on your way to a new mission, competing in a race, or just taking a leisurely drive. As you take the wheel in Enzo’s eyes, you’ll be able to see detailed interiors of cars and close-ups of character animations.
