Diablo II: Resurrected will have its sixth season begin on February 22 at 5:00pm PST. Just like the fifth season, this upcoming season will have neither additional content nor gameplay changes to keep the game refreshing for veteran players.
This will be the second time that Diablo II: Resurrected will follow this format unlike its previous seasons like the first one where it introduced new runewords and allowed players to be able to upgrade set items.
Before the first ladder season happened, Diablo II: Resurrected did make hefty gameplay and balance changes which was the first major patch since patch 1.13c from the legacy games. The 1.13c patch happened on March 23, 2010, and Diablo II: Resurrected’s patch 2.4 happened on April 14, 2022.
Diablo II: Resurrected has also added a brand new endgame mechanic called Terror Zones during its first ladder season. It was not designed to be a ladder exclusive content, but it is content that was not present in the legacy version of the game and it allowed players to experience Diablo II in a way they never had before.
An area would randomly become “terrorized” and monsters would have their levels increased to make them valuable for experience gain or hunting down for loot. The whole idea of this mechanic is to simply promote different locations for players to reach to the game’s highest level character cap which is 99.
Throughout the existence of Diablo II: Resurrected, there have been fan suggested changes like implementing a loot filter option or rebalancing melee mechanics to be more competitive against caster builds. As of 2024, none of these changes have yet been implemented officially.
