Castle In The Darkness Confirms Sequel Game

Remember Castle in the DarknessWell, the retro-style game is making a comeback with the announcement of a sequel game. It is titled simply as Castle in the Darkness 2. Newly formed indie studio LABS were the ones to announce the Castle in the Darkness sequel. In addition, a trailer has already released for the game.

if you’re not familiar with Castle in the Darkness, it’s a metroidvania game released in 2015. Notably, the game launched at the same time as Ori and the Blind Forest and Axiom Verge. It was a solo effort by Matt Kapp, who has worked on art for games like The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and 1001 Spikes. With this upcoming work, he will be working with Simon Parzer and their studio is called LABS Works.

Kapp has released a statement regarding the project:

Castle in the Darkness 2 still features pixel art, but the fidelity has received a major upgrade. I’m really pushing my limits. I made the first game with an 8-bit aesthetic to keep it fast and simple because I was working on it mostly alone. . . But now with Simon taking care of all the technical stuff, along with a few talented specialists, I can focus 100% of my effort on producing the best graphics, music and game design that I’m able to. That’s an incredible feeling!

The trailer released to commemorate the announcement. To add to this, Kapp announced that a trailer would be released on the 2nd day of each month. Each trailer will be featuring a specific aspect of the game or its development. Kapp noted that there will be surprises in store, so interested parties best keep an eye out. On a different note, LABS studio is also working on another game titled, Astalon: Tears of the Earth.
