The feline’s dominance of the internet undoubtedly spills over into the video game realm. From the popularity of the third-person (or cat) adventure game Stray to the love for the Khajiit race in Elder Scroll’s V: Skyrim as well as the highly-anticipated Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s new “Beastran” race; Cats continue to dig their claws into the ever expanding games space. The following are 4 indie games that feature cats available to demo during Steam’s February Next Fest 2024.
Ghost of Catsushina by Bramble Frogs Games
A play on Ghost of Tsushima. Catsushina is a guardian warrior cat spirit. After his spirit is disturbed, his essence sets out on a journey to cleanse his land of “the filth”. All takes place on the island, of which he calls his home, in this action-adventure platformer. The game displays a variety of biomes and mechanics that are gradually introduced as the player progresses. The pixel art is handrawn with a retro feel.
Ghost of Catsushina is developed and published by Bramble Frogs Games with a 2025 release.
The single-player demo is available on Steam during the February Next Fest 2024.
Passage: A Job Interview Simulator! by Emcat Games
Player’s in-game roomate is a cat that aids in climbing the corporate ladder in this educational visual novel. Passage boasts multiple endings with over 10 hours of choice-based gameplay. The game includes an original storyline by the developer EmCat, original character art by ‘Nova’ and a full soundtrack by Andrew Hintzen.
“Passage: A Job Interview Simulator!” is published by Mangotronics Decorporated with a February 18th release date.

Crypt Custodian by Kyle Thompson
Cats and the afterlife go paw in paw with another clawsome entry from developer Kyle Thompson. Play as Pluto, a recently sunken custodian of the spiritual realm. A Metroidvania-adventure exploring a vast map while battling beasts and befriending ghosts. Crypt Custodian already boast a series of awards from the likes of Guerilla Collective and Colors of Indie.
Kyle Thompson developed and published Crypto Custodian with the year 2024 listed as a release window.

Copycat by Spoonful of Wonder
Copycat is very reminiscent of Stray. The former is a narrative-driven telling of the human-to-pet bond. A stray ‘copycat’ infiltrates the player’s household to take over the newly adopted shelter cat’s place. Spoonful of Wonder already boasts Pax 2023’s Indie Showcase winner as well as Sydney 2023’s GOTY finalist for Copycat.
Copycat was developed by Spoonful of Wonder and the publishers are listed as Neverland Entertainment and Nuuvem, Inc.
