Vampire Crawlers has a surprisingly large character roster early on, and unlocking every character is one of the best ways to open up stronger runs, better synergies, and more flexible build options. Some unlocks happen naturally as you progress, but others are tied to specific stages, enemies, coffins, and weapon milestones, which makes it easy to miss a few if you are not tracking them carefully.
1. How to Unlock All Characters in Vampire Crawlers
Vampire Crawlers currently has 21 playable Crawlers. Antonio Belpaese is unlocked by finishing the tutorial, while every other character requires two steps: first, you meet that character’s unlock condition, then you buy them with gold.
The full roster also has its own passive effects. Each character gets one effect when played, plus a second effect that triggers from a specific card color or a Wild W card.

2. Best Order to Unlock Characters Early
The fastest early unlocks are the ones tied to things you will do anyway in your first few hours:
- Imelda, after your first Mad Forest run
- Mortaccio from Skeleton kills
- Yatta Cavallo from Lion Heads in the Library
- Poe, once you start using Garlic
- Dommario, once your coin total reaches 5,000
These are good early targets because they do not require coffin hunts or later-stage bosses, and several of them progress passively while you work on other unlocks. For example, grinding Skeletons for Mortaccio also pushes your overall enemy total toward Krochi.
3. Best Tips to Unlock All Characters Faster
- Always keep gold in reserve for the Inn. Meeting an unlock condition only makes the character available; it does not add them automatically.
- Stack passive kill milestones together. Skeletons, Lion Heads, total enemy kills, and total healing all overlap with normal play.
- Prioritize Garlic, Fire Wand, and Lightning Ring early if you want to speed up Poe, Arca, and Porta.
- Do coffin runs on purpose. They are much slower if you only check for them casually.
- Leave Krochi and Gallo for later. Their unlock cost or requirement is high enough that they are better as long-term goals
