Pizzu refers to the protection money racket in Mafia: The Old Country. The chapter starts with a wine-tipsy Enzo pulling out a note from Isabella. She thanks him for defending her with an invitation for a secret meeting in the garden. This objective will be optional but is well worth the risk. The following guide gives an overview of Chapter 3, Pizzu. Keep reading for highlights on collectibles, lore, SAFE combinations, and other points of interest.
Near Enzo’s living quarters is a dialogue option as well as a Newspaper on the balcony above. The player should go down the ramp, take a left and go up the staircase to acquire.
The Newspaper indicates Sicily has a peak junction period annually referred to as ‘Opera Season’, where nobility and high society congregate within the area. The paper is an implication that the season is good for the Torrisi business.
From here, the player should meet with Isabella first. Meeting her before Luca ensures the player receives the ‘Garden Rendezvous’ trophy as well as an equip-able CHARM for the player’s Rosary.
Meet with Isabella
Upon meeting Isabella, a fervent cutscene will ensue where Enzo and Isabella share a tender but tense moment between each other until they are interrupted by Tino. He sternly shoos Isabella away before giving Enzo his second warning about being alone with her.
Before heading to the stables, the player should grab the Charm sitting over the rickety fireplace.
At this point, the player should head towards the stables as there are no more points of interest. A clip will play where Luca invites Enzo to give a ‘friendly’ reminder for Torrisi’s tenets to collect the pizzu.
Main Conversation Points
- Torrisi protects the people from bandits in exchange for money
- Luca and Cesare have to ‘rough up’ troublesome tenets every now and then
Pizzu
The first stop is a very polite exchange with an old farmer along with a note on the lefthand side of the gate.
- Bandit Notice
At the second stop, the player will be prompted to ‘Enter the citrus farm’ before a brief cinematic scene will play. Luca and Cesare warn Enzo that the next reminder will be a little less than friendly and pull out revolvers. Luca assures Enzo that his gun is unloaded and its all only a ‘watch-and-learn’ for Enzo and to just follow his lead. A dialogue segment will play.
Next, the player will be prompted to aim his gun at the tenet and his son to scare them into compliance.
After a little convincing, the player is prompted to ‘Collect the money’. Follow the prompt and the player is introduced to SAFES.
Safes
SAFES hold valuable items. Look for any NOTES or clues nearby that could reveal any safe’s combination.
In this instance, the SAFE combination is 10-20-30 and is found scribbled on 1 of 3 collectible NOTES located within the room.
- 10-20-30
The next stop is a gentleman that received a loan from Don Torrisi. While that tenet is a quarry foreman who usually pays on time, he has not sent any payments as of recently. Luca remarks that it’s more of a wellness check in case something is amiss.
Upon reaching the next step, we learn that the foreman has not even paid his workers and locked himself inside of a building. After some dialogue, the foreman informs Luca that the recent workers he hired have gone on strike. The foreman needs to convince the ringleader and to end the strike before Torrisi can pay his pizzu.
Ringleader Duel
A cinematic scene will play that will prompt a DUEL between Enzo and the ringleader.
- A successful PARRY
- THRUST or SLASH after a PARRY
- Open for attack but he may dodge
- Tap the action button while in a struggle
Heal yourself with the DOWN (⇓) button if necessary before heading to the next stop. During this ride segment, there will be normal dialogue between the three characters. However, SPUR will be available to ride to your next destination faster.
Steal the Whiskey
A cinematic scene will play where we are introduced to Don Galante and Leo. Leo tasks the player with stealing back their boxes of American whiskey that have been seized by the Guardia.
In this segment, the player will have to locate the impounded whiskey shipment while avoiding detection.
- Always TAKEDOWN from behind…
- Always STASH a body after TAKEDOWN to avoid detection
- NOTE
- NOTE Customs Office Report
Don’t head for the whiskey so fast. There is a safe in one of the back cargo rooms with just a single guard. Take him down before looting the safe. The SAFE Combination is 21-10-08 with the code located behind the desk.
- NOTE with the SAFE Code
- 21-10-08
Use INSTINCT (⇑) when necessary to ensure the Guardia keep their backs to you. Always LOOT bodies after takedown in case they are carrying a WHETSTONE. The player may automatically use a WHETSTONE when available whenever a knife loses its sharpness while equipped. To EQUIP, press the left bumper (L1 or LB) to open the WEAPON WHEEL). A sharp knife doubles as a lockpick which is necessary to open lockboxes containing DINERA.
After Galante and Leo thank the gang for getting his whiskey back, Luca says there is one more stop. The player can use SPUR or skip the ride completely from here (not recommended).
There will be some idle chatter with Enzo where they will ponder plans for the night with some lewd jokes thrown in. Enzo asks if they all will do a Pizzu run tomorrow and Luca laments that these must be done strategically.
Next segment will contain a dialogue with the disgruntled Farmer Fichera who had some property stolen the night before. Luca offers to track them down and return his belongings.
Kill the Bandits
The bandits will lead the gang to an abandoned farm. A cutscene will play where Luca loads Enzo’s pistol for real this time. He grants the signal to Enzo that he may use such force if necessary before excusing himself. From there Enzo must kill the bandit on the righthand side by the well.
- Loaded for real this time…
- “Make sure you clean up.”
Headshots are best when dealing with bandits. Otherwise it may take several bullets to eliminate them. Be sure to loot all bodies and grab up any ammo and lock boxes.
Find the Water Pump
A NOTE on the table describing targeted individuals.
Notice how one of the targeted individual is protected by the Spadardos. The bandits note that they would also need to be pay Spadardo if they dont want any trouble from them, continuing the theme of corruption within the story
Possible Bug or Glitch
Cesare may stand at and point to bandages on a table (Health Kit) that are not there.
Survive the Ambush
Once the player locates the water pump next door, there is a prompt to ‘Open the barn doors’. From there, the player is ambushed by more bandits. Headshots are best. If your aim needs practice, then close to the head is next to best. When Enzo is low on health, his breathing is labored and aim sways side-to-side. Keep your health bar replenished with Down (⇓), when available.
- Left Bumper to open the weapon wheel
- Nearby Explosive, Watch for the red BOMB icon
The bandits will throw explosives and other random objects as part of their ambush strategy. The bandits will ambush starting from the East, North, East (Again), then West of the barn. As seen in previous Mafia games, enemies will take cover and poke their head out periodically. Many times a shot to their head causes them to stand-up for a killshot.
Once all the ruckus is over, Cesare will task Enzo with picking up a bandit corpse to throw down the well. It’s probably best to loot all the bodies leading up to Cesare as the player will only throw two bodies down the well before a cutscene starts.
- Cesare asks for Enzo to keep a secret
- Pizzu
The final scene of the chapter starts with Cesare stealing a ring from one of the bodies at Enzo’s astonishment. Cesare asks Enzo not to tell and he agrees. Enzo and Cesare return to Luca to shakedown the disgruntled old farmer. The elderly man curses at them as thieves under this breath hinting at a growing sense of resentment among the people of the Torrisi territory.
The player receives a ‘Enzo Learns the Family Business’ Trophy for completing the chapter.
