How to Get Resin in Enshrouded

If you want to find Resin in Enshrouded, you better craft an Axe because Resin has a chance to drop from harvesting and cutting down trees, alongside Wood Logs and Twigs. Resin appears in both the overworld and in your backpack as a small piece of broken bark with a hard bit of orange amber at the centre, and is described as the “protective juice of trees”.

Any tree, big or small, has the possibility of dropping Resin but, if you want the best chance to get some, going after larger trees will be to your benefit, especially if you use some sort of Axe or piece of equipment with high Cutting Damage. These trees take longer to chop down and usually give an abundant amount of materials compared to their lesser counterparts, allowing you more opportunities to obtain Resin.

However, even from big trees, it’s still a pretty rare resource when compared to Wood Logs and Twigs, and, when it does drop, Resin usually only comes in batches of around 2. As such, don’t expect to be drowning in amber after cutting down a handful of saplings: you’ll need to be cutting down trees by the grove-full to stuff your pockets with Resin.

Strengthening the Flame Altar

One of the main reasons why you may be seeking out Resin is to reach level 2 on your Flame Altar. When interacting with a Flame Altar back at your base, you’ll have the option to Strengthen the Flame which will increase how many Altars you can place down, your Shroud Passage Level (allowing you to enter more dangerous portions of the Shroud), how long you can spend in the Shroud, and give a bonus to all your attributes.

To reach Flame Level 2, you’ll need to get your hands on 5 Resin, among several other things. Flame Level 3 and upwards don’t seem to require Resin but getting past that first hurdle is extremely important to opening up Enshrouded’s world and exploration.

Magic Weapons and Ammo

Aside from strengthening the Flame Altar, Resin’s most apparent use in crafting involves magical items and weapons

To craft a basic two-handed Staff, a long-ranged magic weapon which lets you cast powerful spells like Fireball and Ice Bolt, you’ll need 1 Bone and 2 Resin. If a magic build interests you, getting your hands on this, alongside a basic Wand which you can use in close-range combat, is vital. Resin is also used to craft more powerful Staves, such as the Spiritual Cane available at the Alchemist.

Additionally, Resin is used to make ammo for your magical weapons. Once you recruit the Alchemist and drop him into your base, he is capable of making 20 Fireball charges for 10 Resin, 1 Tar, and 2 Bonemeal. Like Bows, Staffs won’t be able to do anything without spell charges (unless you have an Eternal Spell, which is exceedingly rare) so having a continuous source of ammo back at your base thanks to Resin is extremely handy.

Making New Armour

Strangely enough, aside from magic items, the most common use of Resin is to craft different kinds of Boots. Both the Scout Boots (crafted by the Hunter) and the Alchemist Apprentice Boots (crafted by the Alchemist) require 2 Resin each, alongside their own separate list of materials.

If you’re looking for something a bit more high-end and have some Resin burning a hole in your pocket, the Blacksmith will begin selling the Rising Fighter armour set once you make a Forge. To craft the whole Rising Fighter set, you’ll need 10 pieces of Resin (3 for the Helmet, 2 for the Chest and 5 for the Boots) but, in return, you’ll get one of the best early-game equipment sets, giving you lots of additional health, Critical Chance and melee damage.

Whether you choose to make the Scout or the Alchemist Apprentice Boots or go whole hog on the Rising Fighter gear, getting new armour is really important to progression in Enshrouded. All of the armour sets which require Resin to craft are significant upgrades over any of the other early-game armour sets, making them a priority item for those wanting to venture deeper into Enshrouded’s world.
