EA FC 24: The Precision Passing Guide

Precision Passing is the newest addition to EA's star game. You'll want to get the hang of it, and fortunately, this EA FC 24 Passing Guide has you covered. We’ll talk about when to use these new mechanisms, as well as the well-known veterans making their return such as the lobbed and driven passes.

EA FC 24: The Precision Passing Guide

The new Precision Passing in EA FC 24 is likely to be this year’s meta as it allows you to create devastating attacking patterns with greater accuracy than ever possible before. You can’t expect to dominate games in EA FC 24 if you don’t get the hang of it.  And in general, whether you are looking to attack or defend, your passing will determine how effectively you can do the things you want to do. In attack, passing must lead to chance creation for your hungry strikers, while in defense, you should be able to recycle the ball and keep it away from the opposition press.

While it’s great to know the basics, you will want to maximize your potential with the ball at your feet by exploring all the passing options available to you. That’s exactly what we aim to do in this EA FC 24 Precision Passing Guide.

Precision Passing

First up in this EA FC 24 Precision Passing Guide let’s look at one of the new gameplay elements. The Precision Pass replaces the old threaded pass and is a welcome addition for attack-minded players. There are three types you can execute according to the circumstances, but the basic logic remains the same: put the ball exactly where you want it to be. The drawbacks of these passes are the increased time and attention required to execute them, which can leave you vulnerable to dispossession.

Grounded Precision Pass

By pressing down R1/RB + Triangle/Y (PlayStation/XBOX) you can bring up a circular target which you can then direct towards the place you want the ball to go with the analog stick. Of course, the time you hold the button down for will determine the speed the ball travels at. I like to combine this precision pass with the directed runs mechanic, whereby by using L1/LB + Right Analog I can instruct the player in front of me to perhaps bend his run to use excess space and make my precision pass more likely to succeed.

The grounded precision pass can help you release the final ball.

Precision Lob

As the name implies, the Precision Lob functions much like the grounded Precision Pass except that it’s aerial. With R1/RB + Square/X you can activate the cursor and direct it to where you want the ball to land once it has left your foot. It’s a great way to attack when the opposition defenders are running with their backs to goal and thus leave space in between the lines for you to exploit.

Swerving Precision Pass

This is the most difficult of the three to execute due to the spatial awareness required. Use L2/LT + R1/RB + Triangle/Y to release a curling ball around the defense which can trigger a one-on-one situation with the keeper. This is great for counter-attacking play whereby one good pass like this can split the defense entirely. Think of Kevin de Bruyne with his inch perfect through passes, that’s probably the closest example of what you are trying to do here with this pass.

Pass and Go

While the Precision Pass is a great addition, let’s not forget the classics in this EA FC 24 Precision Passing Guide. First, let’s talk about the Pass and Go. This is a move that allows you to create beautiful attacking combinations by getting a man to penetrate between the lines to effectively disrupt the opposition defense. Press L1/LB with the pass command to get the passer to instantly make a run forward which you can then use to move the ball forward or create space for your other teammates to exploit.

A combination that has worked for me is to pass and go using my fullback, which causes him to bombard down the flank. Then with my creative playmaker, I released the swerving precision pass to get the ball in behind the opposition backline and effectively create an opening for my fullback. He then ground crosses the ball into the center where my striker will be waiting to tuck the ball away.

Flair Pass

My favorite pass is the flair pass. Combining L2/LT with the pass command as you receive the ball allows you to make quick one-two combinations with your teammates and essentially toy with your opponents as you look to operate in tight spaces. It’s a hallmark of the tiki-taka system employed by Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona.

I like to complement the flair passing style by adjusting my tactical setup accordingly. I reduce my attacking width to 40 and change my chance creation to possession which allows me to execute my tiki-taka more effectively.

Lobbed Through Ball

Next up in this EA FC 24 Precision Passing Guide let’s talk about the lobbed through ball. This functions very similarly to the precision lob except that it requires much less time and focus to execute. This is effective when your opponent is charging you down and therefore not giving much time for you to be precise. Look to get the ball over the opposition heads and task your fast strikers to run in behind to create dangerous opportunities.

It’s also effective as a cross field diagonal ball in front of your winger that allows you to stretch the play and create space for your central attackers which they can then exploit.

Driven Pass

I really like to use the driven pass as a quick and effective way to switch the flanks. Using R1/RB + X/A allows you to execute a powerful along-the-ground pass that will swiftly change the point of attack by moving the opposition from side to side. This should leave space for you to exploit, provided you can do this quick enough.A similar variation is the driven lob pass which does the same thing except that it adds a bit more height and fizz to the ball. Use this by pressing L1/LB + R1/RB + Square/X.

Ground Cross

The grounded cross is effective as a winger or fullback when your striker is making a central run through the middle. Charging up this cross with the square button and then tapping it again right before contact fizzes the ball across the width of the pitch and quite often results in an easy tap in for your striker. It works wonders when you are on the break and the opponent is retreating with their back to goal. You will want to be behind your striker’s position on the pitch when you release this cross.

Fake Pass

Now let’s talk about the Fake Pass in this EA FC 24 Precision Passing Guide. The Fake Pass is useful for several reasons. First, when you are making a lobbed pass, you may decide at the last moment that you want to dribble with the ball or make a different pass instead. Alternatively, you may be dribbling your opponent and want to deceive him by making him think you are going to make a pass but then pull out at the last second to send him the other way. Either way, the fake pass is one of the most popular moves used in EA FC 24 and something you want in your locker. Make your opponent think twice!

Playstyles

A new introduction to this year’s edition and something that could have a huge impact on your passing is the Playstyles mechanic. EA’s new system assigns players certain traits based on their real-life specialties, which means they will perform certain passes better than they would others. You can use this to your advantage.

There are four passing playstyles to consider. The Incisive Pass style boosts the accuracy, curve and speed of your through balls, swerve and precision passes. The pinged pass playstyle adds zing to your ground passes while ensuring that your receiver doesn’t face much difficulty bringing it under control. Next, the long ball pass trait improves the accuracy of your aerial balls. The Tiki-Taka style is great for players who prefer short, quick passes while adding in flair passes from time to time, the emphasis is on first touch. Finally, the whipped pass playstyle improves the curve and accuracy of your crosses and are thus great tools for your wingers and fullbacks to have.

Conclusion

That’s about it for this EA FC 24 Precision Passing Guide. The importance of knowing how to pass well cannot be overstated. Learn how to combine these passes together to get the best out of your team, whether you are trying to attack or just to hold and control the game. Know your players’ playstyles and look to play to their strengths. Remember that passing is a steep learning curve, so take your time and be sure to practice extensively in the skill games menu.
