Attacks don’t help your team much if you can’t finish off your chances. How often have we seen in real life that teams dominate their opponent the entire match but lose because they lack the proper finishing ability. This is even more true for EA Sports FC 24, where being clinical can completely turn around the tide of the match and frustrate possession-oriented opponents.
EA has made a drastic change to their system which can impact your effectiveness in front of goal. This is the addition of the new Playstyles. Players are assigned a certain playstyle based on their real-life specialties which improves the effectiveness of certain types of shots. These include Chip, Finesse, and Power Shot Playstyles. Despite this, much of the shooting mechanics remain the same as previous titles, but you should note that players with a certain shooting playstyle will execute that shot better than other types of shots. That being said, you should still be proficient in all types of shots because every situation requires something different.

Basic Shot
First up in this EA FC 24 Shooting Guide is the basic shot. We all know about this one; simply pressing and holding down O/B (PlayStation/Xbox) charges up a powerful shot that has the potential to beat the goalkeeper from various ranges. The basic shot is simple and quick to execute and is a great way to put in those easy tap-ins where you don’t really need much direction to put the ball in the net. It’s also suitable for testing the keeper from long range from outside the box and hoping for a rebound which your teammates can then score easily from. You can start off with the basic shot but you will want to move on to more advanced shooting techniques as you gain more experience.
Chip Shot
Next up in this EA FC 24 Shooting Guide is the Chip Shot. This is one of the hardest shots to execute in the game in the sense that it requires near-perfect power and timing. The chip shot is best used in a one-on-one opportunity against the charging keeper whereby you must press L1/LB + O/B a fraction of a second before the keeper is about to make contact with the ball. It’s vital that you keep your cool and don’t hold the shoot button for too long as this will send the ball not just over the keeper, but also the goalposts.
Finesse Shot
Want to score those beautiful curling shots from the edge of the box into the far post? Then the finesse shot is your best friend. Press R1/RB + O/B to release these elegant strokes of grace. They are also very effective in close range, whereby you can just pass the ball into the net around the charging goalkeeper instead of just blasting the ball into him. It’s really all about getting the timing of execution right with this one.
Power Shot
EA FC 24 continues the inclusion of the power shot. You can unleash this deadly tool by holding down L1/LB + R1/RB + O/B which will play an animation whereby your player will begin to charge up a powerful shot which has the ability to tear the net apart. The obvious drawbacks of course, are the drastically reduced accuracy as well as the time required to charge up the shot because of which the opponent can easily dispossess you by sliding in.
Because of the drawbacks described above, using the power shot inside the penalty box in EA FC 24 is hardly ever effective. Therefore, you’ll want to hit these from the edge of the box where you may have slightly more time and space.
Timed Finishing
This is probably the most difficult shot to execute in the game due to the near perfect timing it requires which is difficult to achieve in high-intensity moments during the game. You can execute the shot by first pressing O/B to start the shooting animation, and then just before the player makes contact the ball press the shoot button again. If done right, this will greatly magnify the power and accuracy of the shot and nearly always get the ball past the keeper. If done even slightly wrong however, the ball may just find the corner flag instead.
Flair Shot
Finally in this EA FC 24 Shooting guide we have the Flair Shot. Scoring the bicycle kick is the dream of nearly every striker. Fortunately, you can make this a reality in EA FC 24 by pressing L2/LT + O/B when the ball is at the perfect height and position relative to body. Not only this, but you also have various shots such as the scorpion kick, rabona, and other trick shots at your disposal. These are great for showboating against your opponent but not always the most effective way to score the goals as they can result in loss of power and accuracy as compared to other types of shots.
Conclusion
That’s about it for this EA FC 24 Shooting Guide. Remember that every situation requires a different type of shot selection; there’s no one best shot type. When you have to score the simple tap-in, use the basic shot, when the keeper is charging towards you, chip it over them, when you want to ease the ball around the keeper use the finesse shot, and when you want to test the keeper from range unleash the absolute rocket that is the power shot. It all comes down to the exact circumstances you find yourself in.
Practice makes perfect, so be sure to do loads of that in the EA FC 24 Skill Games menu.
