How to Level Up Fast in Enshrouded

Mine Ore

The most efficient and easiest way to farm XP and level up fast in Enshrouded is to simply mine ore. Embervale is home to many different kinds of ore which can either appear in random resource veins throughout the world or at dedicated Mine Shafts. Mining these veins with a Pickaxe will award you not only important resources like Flintstone but also XP and a lot of it at that. Just be aware that you will only get experience upon harvesting a resource from the ore (even if your backpack is full and cannot pick up it), not from the act of mining itself.

Depending on the type of ore you mine, you’ll get a different amount of XP, with harder-to-mine ores generally giving much more experience. For example, Flintstone, the most common early game ore, takes several swings to mine but, in return, will give you around 7 XP per bit of Flintstone you acquire. In contrast, Salt is a much more abundant and easy resource to mine but, in return, only gives around 3 XP per Salt you salvage.

The main reason why mining is such an efficient way of getting XP is how much return for investment you get. Finding a resource vein isn’t particularly difficult in Enshrouded, especially because Mines (which will continually replenish their resource veins) get marked on your map once found, and you only need to build a Pickaxe to reap a plentiful amount of XP. There is very little danger and very little cost associated with it apart from time – and, to be fair, you will be spending a lot of time mining with this method – making it an easy and affordable way of levelling up in Enshrouded’s early, mid and end game.

Slay Monsters

If you’d prefer a more proactive method of earning XP, the other main method of levelling up fast in Enshrouded is to fight and kill monsters. Each time you kill a monster, they will award you a direct stream of XP, with higher-level enemies awarding you more experience.

You can tell an enemy’s level by the number above their head, with the colour of that number designating the overall difficulty of the encounter: if the number is red, they’re either below or around your character level, whereas a purple icon denotes that they are much stronger than you and will give you a tough time.

Monsters can spawn anywhere at almost any time but the enemies you’ll want to focus on for farming purposes are the Scavengers or the Shroud born. Scavengers are human enemies who usually set down roots in abandoned settlements or villages – such as Rookmore, an area close to your first base – whereas the enemies from the Shroud will either be found shambling around the overworld at night or deep within the Shroud itself. Both of these enemy types award a generous amount of XP and are abundant enough that they should certainly be your focus.

Clear Elixir Wells and Destroy Shroud Roots

Aside from mining and killing, the most directly rewarding sources of XP and Skill Points are Elixir Wells and Shroud Roots. Elixir Wells are lost human monuments which have become home to Shroud Roots, massive looming bits of fauna which are the direct cause of the Shroud. These areas are the direct form of combat challenge in Enshrouded, asking you to contend with high-level enemies as well as your dwindling Shroud Protection.

So, how does this relate to fast levels? Each time you destroy a Shroud Root at the heart of an Elixir Well for the first time, you’ll instantly earn a Skill Point. This is one of the only ways, outside of certain quests, to get a direct feed of Skill Points without having to level up. As such, taking out Shroud Roots is easily the best way to go if you’re specifically grinding to get certain high-cost Skills, such as Double Jump, as early as possible. The trade-off, of course, is that you can only do this once per Elixir Well, giving you a limited number of opportunities to get Skill Points in this manner.

Additionally, Elixir Wells are also completely filled with enemies, making them a perfect spot to farm monsters if that’s the method of farming you prefer. While it’s true that you’ll only get the free Skill Point once, the Elixir Wells themselves will become repopulated every 10 minutes or so, giving you a steady stream of high-level enemies in one area to hunt.

Discover New Locations

Finally, the last major way to get a big injection of experience quickly in Enshrouded is to discover new locations. Certain important locations in Embervale will be given a landmark icon, denoting them as a place of note for one reason or another, whether it’s a field of crops to harvest, a camp of Scavengers to take out, or a hidden tomb to pillage. Stumbling upon these locations will give you an instant load of XP – usually 100 to 150 XP – making exploration a rather rewarding process.

In addition to the XP, you’ll earn from finding a new area directly, it’s also likely that these areas (especially settlements or camps) will have new pieces of lore to collect. Unread lore or documents will glow a bright vibrant orange to let you know that they’ve yet to be collected and, upon first viewing, you’ll receive a small chunk of XP. Often, reading lore in this manner will give you a new location on the map or a new quest in your journal, giving you another new area to search in order to earn XP.

Discovering new locations and finding the items within that lead you to different locations in the main explorative gameplay loop of Enshrouded and the most basic way to get XP. While the initial numbers for this method are a lot lower than either of the previous three methods we described, it’s also the most simple and one of the only methods which give you direct progress: you won’t be farming locations for XP as you do with ore or monsters.
