5 Best Cards in Pokémon TCG “Champion’s Path”

If you're wondering which cards are the best in the latest Pokémon TCG expansion, this guide has you covered. Out of the 75 newly released cards, these are the five you most want to see in that booster pack, based on rarity and apparent drop rates.

5 Best Cards in Pokémon TCG

The Pokémon Trading Card Game community has been stricken with excitement surrounding the latest expansion, Champion’s Path. But out of 75 newly available cards, which ones are truly the best? What should you get excited to see fall out of that booster pack? It can be a daunting task, so I’m here to tell you the definitive 5 best Pokémon cards in the Champion’s Path expansion set, based on rarity.

The first part of the Pokémon TCG Champion’s Path set was released on September 25th, 2020, at participating retailers worldwide. More packs and decks are scheduled for the next few months, and I’ve detailed the release schedule for your planning needs.

5. SHINY SUSPICIOUS FOOD TIN

Something's off about this tin of food, but it looks great.

Something’s off about this tin of food, but it looks great.

It might not look like much, but this Trainer Card featuring a strange-looking tin of food is a pretty nice card to get, if you pull the shiny version. If you run a Psychic-type deck, having this additional boost of healing can pay off if you’re in a pinch. On the other hand, if Psychic-type isn’t your bag, this won’t be strategically useful. This card is currently worth about the same as a couple of booster packs, making it worthwhile if you’re looking to invest back into more cards.

4. SHINY GARDEVOIR VMAX

Shiny Gardevoir VMAX is a gorgeous representation of Gardevoir, and those stats aren't too shabby.

Shiny Gardevoir VMAX is the fancy Dynamax version of everyone’s favorite Pokémon wife. With the ability to heal and hurt simultaneously, Shiny Gardevoir VMAX is exciting to collectors, and players alike. At 320HP and only a 180 damage possibility, Gardevoir VMAX would be a great option as a tank card, soaking up some damage while you build up a heavy hitter on the Bench.

Paired with Suspicious Food Tin, you might have a pretty nice tank combo going. Gardevoir VMAX is worth about as much as the aforementioned Food Tin, but since the expansion release is still ongoing, we expect the value to increase over time.

3. SHINY DREDNAW VMAX

That's one killer turtle? shell? Chompy boy?

Drednaw VMAX is another big tank Pokémon. With 320HP and the Solid Shell ability, placing it will buy you some time to boost some other Pokémon. The G-Max Headbutt move is super exciting, at most with a heads coin flip dealing 240 points of damage, but it should shave off enough to keep you in the fight, for a little while at least.

As with the other cards on this list, it’s still early for Champion’s Path to prove economically successful to the collector. It’s the gathering season, after all. But after some time, Drednaw VMAX should become a highly-valued card to have in your possession.

2. SHINY CHARIZARD V

The GOAT continues to be the GOAT, but this time in fancy black.

Charizard has been a valuable card since the very beginning of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. In this latest expansion, we’re seeing a lot of Charizard love from The Pokémon Company. The Elite Trainer Box is themed entirely around Charizard, and the best two cards from the expansion are our good flame boy.

Shiny Charizard V is an obviously rare find. Plus, being a Basic Pokémon card means it is playable without having to evolve Charmander and Charmeleon, allowing players to drop him right out of the gate.

1. SHINY RAINBOW CHARIZARD VMAX

This guy has been blowing the minds of collectors everywhere.

Simply stunning. With huge stats, incredibly rare drop rates, and a beautiful rainbow color palette that shines like the sun, Shiny Rainbow Charizard VMAX is the standout choice for the best Champion’s Path card. Collectors everywhere are gathering up the Elite Trainer Box by the dozens for a chance at pulling this card, and it has all the attributes of a valuable card for many years to come.

Champion’s Path is hard to find right now, as it just dropped and has such valuable new cards. But, there’s plenty more coming down the pipe, as The Pokémon Company is due to release more gym sets in the coming months. Check out their official website for all of the cards, and keep your eyes peeled at your local retailer.

This morning our Son turnt 8. He asked for the Champions Path Elite trainer box. He had been going on about how much he wanted the Rainbow rare Charixard VMAX and how unlikely it was to get one. He opened two packets and then it was time for School. We said one more packet then and he pulled this card. He was so happy he went to School beaming!

I bought my son a box of Pokémon cards at Walmart. I wasn’t looking for Champions Path specifically, I just wanted to get him something as a treat. As I was looking, I saw one box of champions path on a bottom shelf towards the back, so I just grabbed it. I had no idea what it was, but I knew that he had been talking about it being the new ones recently. He pulled the #1 Shiny Rainbow Charizard VMAX!!! He went nuts, and of course even then I had no idea what he was even taking about until I found this article. I’m so happy for him!! (He’s 10) It’s like Charlie when he found the golden ticket in the Wonka bar.

That’s amazing! I’m so glad he is happy and now you know what he’s talking about. I have a 6yo and we got a bunch of cards juuuust before Champion’s Path came out, so he hasn’t had a chance to beg for the new ones yet. Congratulations on your sons new investment! 😀
