The REPO startup failures on Windows can involve permissions, damaged game files, DirectX launch settings, mods, or a winhttp.dll problem. Start with the quick Steam and Windows checks below, then move to the mod and DLL fixes if the game still does not open.
1. Run the Game With Admin Rights
Run REPO as an administrator to test whether Windows permissions are blocking startup. Apply elevated privileges from the game’s install folder:
- Open the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\REPO folder path within File Explorer.
- Right-click the REPO.exe file and select Properties > Compatibility.
- Next, select Run this program as an administrator by clicking the checkbox for that setting.
- Select Apply to save settings as configured and OK to exit.
2. Verify the Game Files
Use Steam’s file verification to check for and repair corrupted REPO files:
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click REPO and select Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
3. Run the System File Checker
Run System File Checker to repair Windows system files that REPO depends on, including winhttp.dll:
- Open Command Prompt as administrator.
- Enter sfc /scannow.
- Wait for the scan to finish.
- Launch REPO again.
4. Set a -DX11 or -DX12 Launch Option
Force REPO to launch with DirectX 11 first, then switch to DirectX 12 if the game still does not start:
- Open the Steam gaming client and click Library.
- Right-click on REPO in the sidebar to select its Properties option.
- Enter -dx11 within the launch text box on the General tab.
- If the game doesn’t start with a -dx11 launch setting, try changing it to -dx12.
5. Delete the BepInEx Folder
Have you added some mods to REPO? If so, try removing those mods by deleting the BepInEx folder to fix REPO not launching. These are the steps for deleting the BepInEx folder:
- Open Steam and its Library tab.
- Right-click REPO on the sidebar to select Manage > Browse local files.
- Erase the BepInEx folder in REPO’s root directory by right-clicking it and selecting Delete.
6. Replace the Winhttp.dll File
If REPO shows a winhttp.dll error message, replace the copy in the game folder with the winhttp.dll file found through Windows Search:
- Click inside the Windows Search box.
- Enter winhttp.dll.
- Right-click the winhttp.dll search result and select Open file location.
- Next, right-click winhttp.dll and select Copy.
- Open the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\REPO folder within Explorer.
- Right-click inside that folder and select Paste.
- Select Yes if prompted to overwrite.
7. Other Potential Ways to Fix REPO Not Launching
If REPO still does not open after the main fixes, work through these broader Windows and Steam troubleshooting checks:
- Apply a graphics driver update for your GPU.
- Close unneeded background programs in Task Manager before starting the game.
- Reinstall the REPO game.
- Run REPO in Windows 8 compatibility mode.
- Add the REPO game folder to antivirus exclusion lists.
I hope you fix the REPO not launching with one of the troubleshooting methods above. If REPO still does not start after these fixes, send a bug report to su*****@******rk.se and include the error message or launch behavior you see.
