Insidious: The Red Door

It’s been 5 years since the Insidious series has seen a new entry. Since the first one released in 2010 it’s been one of the biggest horror franchises of the decade, with its first 20s film, The Red Door, looking stamp its name in this one as well. Series regular and horror star Patrick Wilson is getting his directorial debut with this one, starring alongside returning cast members Rose Byrne and legendary scream queen Lin Shaye.
Insidious: The Red Door follows on from Insidious 1 & 2. A decade after the events of the previous films, Josh and Renai’s haunted child Dalton is heading off to college, having repressed his abilities and thus the influence of the demons in the Further. However, when past monsters return Josh and Dalton must once again go into the twisted realm to stop the nightmare once and for all.
Sympathy For The Devil
Sympathy For The Devil releases on July 28, 2023 in Theatres
Upcoming psychological horror Sympathy For The Devil is releasing late this month. Starring Nicolas Cage and Joel Kinnaman (Suicide Squad) alongside each other, this film will come to our screens on July 28th after premiering at the Fantasia International Film Festival.
Joel Kinnamen plays The Driver, who is forced at gunpoint by a mysterious passenger (Nic Cage) to take part in a dangerous, high stakes game of cat and mouse. Everything is not at is seems though. With great actors and a bonkers look for Nic Cage, Sympathy for the Devil is one of the biggest horrors releasing this July.
The Haunted Mansion
The Haunted Mansion releases on July 28, 2023 in Theatres
Horror-Comedy The Haunted Mansion offers a more family friendly option for horror fans. You may be familiar with the property; either the Disneyland ride the film is based on, or fond memories of the 2004 movie with Eddie Murphy. The remake comes with a truly stacked cast. LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ryan Gosling and Danny DeVito all star in the reboot as a bizarre series of paranormal investigators.
The plot follows a single mother and her son who find their new mansion is beset with ghosts and hauntings. To free the home of the spirits they hire several experts for help. These range from a priest to a professor. With a great cast and premise, The Haunted Mansion is a great choice for horror fans with kids looking to induct them in the genre.
Talk To Me
Talk to Me releases on July 28th, 2023 in Theatres
With great reviews praising the story and practical effects, Talk To Me sparked a bidding war after its screening at the Adelaide Film Festival 2022 and international premiere at Sundance 2023. The iconic A24 picked up the film for distribution and we can finally see the Australian film. It’s great to see a directorial debut gain so much traction, with Danny and Michael Philippou bursting onto the scene.
A group of teenagers find that they can summon spirits and ghosts via an embalmed hand. The thrill of the summonings leads them to perform more and more seances. However when one of them goes too far, something dreadful is unleashed. The film currently sits at 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the stellar reviews mean this is one of the biggest horror movies releasing this July.
Cobweb
Cobweb releases on July 21, 2023 in Theatres
Another directorial debut making its way onto the biggest horror movies of July is Cobweb, directed by Samuel Bodin. The film stars Lizzy Caplan (Mean Girls, The Interview) and Anthony Starr (The Boys), with Seth Rogen producing alongside others. It’s got stiff competition with Oppenheimer and Barbie releasing at the same time. The film is based on the famous short story ‘The Telltale Heart’ by Edgar Allen Poe. The strong cast and powerful source material means Cobweb is one our most anticipated movies of the biggest horrors coming out this July.
Cobweb focuses on Peter, played by Woody Norman, a young boy who is disturbed by strange knocking noises from within the walls of his home. His parents deny any such noises, saying it’s all in his head. He can’t help but investigate, leading him to a dark secret his eerie parents are keeping from him.
