5 Biggest Horror Movies Releasing in November 2024

November is a little light in 2024, but those that are still looking for horror movies will want to check out some of the films on this list. November has the difficult job of following October in terms of horror movies. Studios and streaming services gave mostly everything in the previous month. This month, however, includes one of my most anticipated horror movies of the year.

5 biggest horror movies releasing in november 2024

Are you still recovering from the plethora of horror movies that came out in October? Well, November is incredibly light this year as most of the streaming platforms went all out in October so there’s not as much this month. That being said, there are still a couple of movies you will want to check out if you’re a fan of horror. Let’s take a look at the top horror movies releasing in November 2024. This list descends from #5 to #1 horror movie of the month.

Cellar Door

Release Date November 1
Director Vaughn Stein
Main Cast Scott Speedman, Jordana Brewster, Laurence Fishburne
Duration 97 minutes
Basements are always creepy

Basements are always creepy

Synopsis:

A couple is gifted a dream home with the condition of never opening the cellar door.

Overview:

The trailer for Cellar Door doesn’t give much of anything away. Obviously, we know this couple is going to open that door eventually, but what lurks inside? Is it the truth or a monster? 2022’s Barbarian had a similar feeling when I first saw it. And in that movie, the audience was taken to the basement for a while. It was incredibly clever and horrific. I’m hoping this film gives off a similar thrill.

Rita

Release Date November 22
Director Jayro Bustamante
Main Cast Giuliana Santa Cruz, Angela Quevedo, Alejandra Vasquez
Duration 107 minutes
The fantastical perspective is interesting

The fantastical perspective is interesting

Synopsis:

Rita runs away from her abusive father, ending up in the big city where she is taken and placed in an orphanage by the state. Her arrival gives hope to those inside who think she is the angel that will free them all.

Overview:

Rita is based on a true story about a tragic event that occurred in Guatemala. This film gives that event a fantasy-like perspective. I’m not familiar with that event and won’t read up on it until after I finish this film. Judging from the trailer, Rita looks to be brutal and dark. I’m interested in this film but also scared of what will unfold.

Pedro Páramo

Release Date November 6th
Director Rodrigo Prieto
Main Cast Manual Garcia-Rulfo, Tenouch Huerta, Mayra Batalla
Duration 130 minutes
A literal ghost town

A literal ghost town

Synopsis:

Juan Preciado travels to a remote village after the death of his mother, hoping to find his father. What he encounters is a ghost town where he learns of his father’s past.

Overview:

The trailer and the plot for this film make me think this horror movie will be more cerebral than the others. Pedro Páramo is based on a novel considered one of Mexico’s most important books. As a result, I’m curious to see how it will turn out. Time seems to jump around a lot in the trailer which makes me think it will in the film too. If for nothing else, I’m expecting this film to be gorgeous as the director worked on several notable films such as Barbie, and Wolf of Wall Street as Director of Photography.

Black Cab

Release Date November 8th
Director Bruce Goodison
Main Cast Nick Frost, Synnove Karlsen, Luke Norris
Duration 87 minutes
YouTube preview

Synopsis:

A couple enter a black cab, but quickly realize their driver has other sinister intentions for them.

Overview:

The idea of entering a cab, or Uber, and then being taken to some dark haunted road in a completely different area than where you wanted to go is a fear everyone has right? Just me? Well, it might scare many more after this film. Black Cab’s trailer seems to go in a variety of different places so I’m curious to see how the final product will turn out. These movies that have haunted “rides” in them can often produce some incredibly tense moments and great scares.

Heretic

Release Date November 8th
Director Scott Beck, Bryan Woods
Main Cast Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher, Chloe East
Duration 110 minutes
YouTube preview

Synopsis:

Two religious women stop by a man’s house hoping to spread the word of God, only to be trapped in a twisted game where they must prove their faith.

Overview:

The trailer for Heretic is short, sweet, and creepy. It doesn’t tell you too much but gives you just enough to lure you in. It sort of looks like a dark psychological escape room game. I’m curious to see what Hugh’s character believes and what he plans to prove in this game. Then there is the fact that this is being made by A24 which is known to make more cerebral and deep horror films. This is a must-watch for November.
