March is looking to bring a lot of fun horror films to movie theaters. While some of these movies have an action-heavy focus, they will all be sure to include some gruesome deaths and potentially great scares. February had a bit of a rough patch for horror movies, but I’m confident March will get us back on track with excellent horror films that we have come to expect the past few years.
5. The Bride!
| Release Date | March 5th |
| Director | Maggie Gyllenhaal |
| Main Cast | Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Jake Gyllenhaal |
| Duration | 126 minutes |
Synopsis:
Frankenstein’s monster seeks a partner, and through the help of Dr. Euphronius, they bring a woman back to life, causing chaos.
Why it makes the list
This is probably not going to be the scariest movie on this list, but Frankenstein, played by Christian Bale? The trailer for The Bride! sold me on this dark and gritty Chicago setting, and I’m excited to explore it. I am not completely certain what the actual plot will be besides bringing the bride to life, but so far, it seems rather interesting.
4. Bodycam
| Release Date | March 13th (Shudder) |
| Director | Brandon Christensen |
| Main Cast | Jaime M. Callica, Sean Rogerson, Catherine Lough Haggquist |
| Duration | 75 minutes |
Synopsis:
Two police officers investigating a domestic dispute, accidentally shoot someone. They try to cover it up, but soon realize something else is watching them.
Why it makes the list
The director behind Bodycam is the same one behind Night Of The Reaper and Superhost, two horror films I loved watching. And now, he’s making a found footage horror film that genuinely looks pretty creepy. Only concern is the special effects in the film. There is one odd-looking scene that could use some polish. Otherwise, I’m pretty excited.
3. They Will Kill You
| Release Date | March 27th |
| Director | Kirill Sokolov |
| Main Cast | Zazie Beets, Myha’la, Patricia Arquette |
| Duration | 94 minutes |
Synopsis:
A woman takes a house keeping job at a NYC high-rise building, not aware that the building is shrouded in mystery.
Why it makes the list
The trailer for They Will Kill You is absolutely crazy and looks to feature a ton of action. I didn’t want to watch too much of it, because I started to feel it was giving away too much of the film, but what I did see looked super fun. Zazie Beetz looks incredible in this film and her being a one-man army was not something I knew I needed.
2. Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come
| Release Date | March 20th |
| Director | Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett |
| Main Cast | Samara Weaving, Kathryn Newton, Shawn Hatosy |
| Duration | 108 minutes |
Synopsis:
Grace unwillingly participates in another deadly game between 4 rival families. This time, she has her sister with her.
Why it makes the list
The first film was such a blast to watch, and this one looks to double it up with the sisters’ involvement. I’m curious to see how their relationship will unfold and whether or not her sister will be able to hold her own. The trailer showcased an action-packed and fun time. I have a feeling it will be even better than the first film.
1. Undertone
| Release Date | March 13th |
| Director | Ian Tuason |
| Main Cast | Nina Kiri, Adam DiMarco, Michele Duquet |
| Duration | 85 minutes |
Synopsis
After receiving a mysterious audio recording, the host of a paranormal podcast begins to experience hauntings.
Why it makes the list
The film was screened at some festivals and has received very good word of mouth. A ton of people are saying it’s scary and that the audio design is very unique, adding to the tension of the film. The trailer looks pretty creepy so I’m excited for this one. I’m hoping it delivers on those scares.
