Summer is finally upon us, and what better way to cool off from the sun than to stay indoors and watch something scary? July is jam-packed with new horror movies. In fact, July is so packed that this list won’t be able to include all the major releases.
If you’re a fan of horror, though, you’ll want to check out some of our honorable mentions, which include: Push (Shudder exclusive), Abraham’s Boy, The Twin, and The Home. Horror has been killing this year, and the selection of new films next month looks to continue that streak. Let’s take a look at the top 5 biggest horror movies releasing in July.

5. Saint Clare
Release Date | June 18th |
Director | Mitzi Peirone |
Main Cast | Bella Thorne, Rebecca De Mornay, Frank Whaley |
Duration | 92 minutes |
Synopsis
A woman with the guidance of voices, murders ill-intended people and gets away with it. Her recent kill, however, brings her down a rabbit hole of corruption and visions from beyond.
Overview
The premise for Saint Clare sounds interesting, and the trailer piqued my interest some more. I’m not sure it will be the scariest movie on this list, but it looks fun nonetheless. I’m sure there will be a psychological aspect to it with deeper themes to be explored. The buzz so far appears generally positive so far. I’ll be looking forward to seeing this one.
4. House On Eden
Release Date | July 25th (Shudder) |
Director | Kris Collen |
Main Cast | Kris Collen, Celina Myers, Jason-Christopher Mayer |
Duration | 98 minutes |
Synopsis
Paranormal investigators Kris and Celina set off on their next case, but after being rerouted to an abandoned house, they end up facing a malevolent entity.
Overview
House of Eden is a found footage film, which is always a plus in my books. It’s being directed by Kris Collen, who is a TikTok content creator. It will be interesting to see how her expertise in editing and creating videos will translate here. The premise isn’t exactly original, but it could be worthwhile if the scares are executed well.
3. Together
Release Date | July 30th |
Director | Michael Shanks |
Main Cast | Dave Franco, Alison Brie, Damon Herriman |
Duration | 92 minutes |
Synopsis
A couple move to the country, where their relationship starts to spiral due to an unnatural force that is corrupting their love and flesh.
Overview
Together looks absolutely bizarre. The trailer doesn’t spoil anything, and instead confused me more. It looks shocking and…pretty gross too. It looks like a chaotic time, according to people who have seen it at film festivals. The chatter around this film has been raving. Let’s see if the audience members feel the same way about this that the critics do.
2. I Know What You Did Last Summer
Release Date | July 18th |
Director | Jennifer Kaytin Robinson |
Main Cast | Madelyn Cline, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr. |
Duration | 103 minutes |
Synopsis
A group of friends are stalked by a killer who is aware of their unspeakable past.
Overview
Funny enough, I watched the original I Know What You Did Last Summer at way too young of an age. Besides being scared out of my mind, I remember most notably the cinematography and how so many scenes were bathed in darkness. It was something different than other films I had seen at the time, where everything was brighter. Being shot on digital, this sequel/remake doesn’t appear to have that same aesthetic, but it looks fun nonetheless. If this film can deliver on some scares and cool set pieces, it will certainly be worth watching.
1. Jurassic World Rebirth
Release Date | July 6th |
Director | Gareth Edwards |
Main Cast | Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Johnathan Bailey |
Duration | 134 minutes |
Synopsis
An expedition team enters a region full of dinosaurs in hopes of extracting DNA for a medical breakthrough.
Overview
I know what you’re thinking. “This isn’t a horror movie.” Well, if this were the Chris Pratt Jurassic World series of movies, I’d be inclined to agree, but according to director Gareth Edwards, this film will have a lot of scary sequences similar to those of the original film. The director has shown he knows how to make monsters terrifying, as he previously directed the 2014 Godzilla film. If he can scale up the dinosaurs to be menacing while also delivering on the adventure, Jurassic World Rebirth will be a must-see in July.
