The weather may be cooling down in the Northern Hemisphere but we need not fear, as horror games are bringing the heat this month. We have new instalments to beloved franchises such as Silent Hill and Dying Light, along with Alien: Rogue Incursion being ported from VR to PC and PS5. And the icing on the disturbing cake, completely fresh titles Hell is Us and Cronos: The New Dawn. You can find out more about the upcoming horror games for September 2025 below.
If you missed out on August’s horror game round-up, you can still catch up. If that isn’t enough to whet your appetite while waiting for Spooky Season™, we have many more horrors in store:
- 5 Biggest Horror Movies Releasing in September 2025
- Weapons Review: An Anxiety-Filled Mystery
- Killing Floor 3 Review: Another Round of Beautiful Gore (PS5)
1. Hell is Us
Release | 4th September |
Price | From £44.99 ($44.99) |
Developer | Rogue Factor |
Publisher | Nacon |
Platform | PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S |
Subgenre | RPG, Dark Fantasy, Sci-fi |
Hell is Us sees you take on the role of Remi, who is searching for his parents amidst a supernatural disaster and civil war. The multi-layered, interwoven narrative is discovered at the players pace, with only your drone and specialised melee weapons to aid you in felling the mysterious beasts which roam the lands. While the concept of no maps or quest markers is daunting for some (me), Hell is Us encourages you to explore the open world by allowing your senses and conversation skills to guide you.
And if you’re intrigued by the lore but intimidated by the more challenging combat, or you’re just in the mood for a more chilled out dystopian experience, difficulty options will be available. If you’re anxiously anticipating the calamity, pre-ordering the digital deluxe edition allows you to play from September 1st.
2. Cronos: The New Dawn
Release | 5th September |
Price | From £49.99 ($59.99) |
Developer | Bloober Team |
Publisher | Bloober Team |
Platform | PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 |
Subgenre | Survival Horror, Sci-fi, Shooter |
Bloober Team once more pay homage to their homeland in Cronos: The New Dawn. Taking place in the desolate future where the effects of The Change have ravaged humanity, you must scavenge the wastelands to replenish vital resources and locate time rifts which take you back to 1980s Poland.
As you journey through the past, you will find important people whose ‘essences’ can be ‘harvested’ to utilise in the present. Naturally, as you try to navigate this nightmare world there are horrors to fight. Though be warned; the slain creatures won’t remain dead – their mutilated corpses merging to create new abhorrent forms more powerful than before.
3. Dying Light: The Beast
Release | 19th September |
Price | From £49.99 ($59.99) |
Developer | Techland |
Publisher | Techland |
Platform | PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S |
Subgenre | Zombies, Open World, Parkour |
Sticking with our Polish dev teams for this entry, with Dying Light: The Beast. What initially started out as DLC for Dying Light 2, Techland decided was a beast of its own and turned it into a standalone entry. Protagonist Kyle Crane returns as he escapes being held captive by the Baron for years of torturous experiments.
Make the most of the daylight and prepare for the bloodshed at night as you learn to harness the zombie DNA running through your veins. You can parkour over rooftops and (literally) tear through the undead solo or in multiplayer. Returning players should note that if you purchased the ultimate edition of Dying Light 2: Stay Human, you will receive a free copy of Dying Light: The Beast.
4. Silent Hill f
Release | 25th September |
Price | From £69.99 ($69.99) |
Developer | NeoBards Entertainment |
Publisher | KONAMI |
Platform | PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S |
Subgenre | Female Protagonist, Psychological Horror, Multiple Endings |
The next mainline entry in the series, Silent Hill f takes place in 1960s Japan and follows the trials of Hinako Shimizu. It wouldn’t be Silent Hill without trauma presenting itself in even more traumatising ways, and this time around is no different. Not only is Silent Hill f a return to harrowing thoughts, but fans with a soft spot for the soundtracks will be happy to hear the return of composer Akira Yamaoka.
Shimizu must battle with her internal conflicts alongside their grotesque physical manifestations, with a fun lil’ puzzle along the way. The year and the choice of female protagonist here are essential to the narrative, as explained in PCGamer’s interview with producer Motoi Okamoto, with parts of Shimizu’s inner turmoil being rooted in her discomfort of society’s expectations of her as a woman.
5. Alien: Rogue Incursion – Evolved Edition
Release | 30th September |
Price | From £19.99 ($29.99) |
Developer | Survios |
Publisher | Survios |
Platform | PC, PS5 |
Subgenre | FPS, Sci-fi, Alien |
Initially released for VR at the end of 2024, Alien: Rogue Incursion – Evolved Edition is remade in not-VR for PlayStation 5 and PC, with the deluxe edition offering extra skins as well as the digital artbook. Taking place between the events of the Alien and Aliens films, you play as marine Zula Hendricks, who has the responsibility of responding to a distress call from a nearby planet.
Of course, the emergency isn’t as trivial as low food supplies and instead you are faced with our lovely pals the xenomorphs. Only through careful stealth and cleverly utilising the firearms at your disposal will you find your way to safety – and the eventual cliffhanger, as there should be a part two to accompany part one.
