May has more exciting horror games than can fit on this list. While April was a bit slow for new horror titles, May looks to remedy that with a large selection of indie and big-budget games. I want to give an honorable mention to Tunnel, a MetaQuest VR exclusive title, and Deck of Haunts. I’d recommend checking those out after going through this list.
As always, please be aware that there are many horror games with unannounced release dates, so it’s possible we won’t know about some gems until halfway into the month. For now, though, let’s look at the 5 biggest horror games releasing in May. This list descends from #5 to #1 biggest horror games.

Out of Sight
Release Date | May 22nd |
Price | TBA |
Developer | The Gang |
Publisher | Starbreeze Entertainment |
Platform | PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S |
Being in a horror situation must already be stressful. But what about if you’re blind and in one? Out of Sight has players guide Sophie, a young, blind girl, to avoid her captors. Interestingly, Sophie can see through the eyes of her teddy bear. Placing it down in certain areas will create a third-person perspective. Sophie will solve puzzles in the large mansion to break free. The trailer for the title looks unique and a lot of fun.
Out of Sight is bound to create an unsettling atmosphere as you traverse the mansion. You not only can’t see regularly, but you also seemingly can’t defend yourself, which is bound to create encounters all the more stressful.
Labyrinth Of The Demon King
Release Date | May 13th |
Price | 19.99 |
Developer | J. R. Hudepohl |
Publisher | J. R. Hudepohl |
Platform | PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S |
If you’re in the mood for a horror dungeon crawler, then look no further than Labyrinth Of The Demon King. In this retro first-person horror game, you’ll set off on a journey to kill the Demon King who killed your lord. The developer is promising a challenging title where you’ll have to manage limited resources to survive. The player will discover a variety of different weapons as well to help aid them on their journey.
I think the retro style of the game and the fact that many of these corridors are bathed in darkness will provide an uneasy feeling to the players as they progress. This May horror game has a ton of eyes on it right now due to its old-school aesthetic and challenging gameplay. You’ll want to keep an eye on this one.
The Horror On Highrook
Release Date | May 1st |
Price | TBA |
Developer | Nullpointer Games |
Publisher | Nullpointer Games, Outersloth |
Platform | PC |
The Horror on Highrook is a card-crafting narrative RPG that sees you control a group of investigators to learn the truth behind the estate’s missing family. Players will control various cards that they’ll have to combine in certain locations of the house to further progress. These combinations can unlock new tools, potions, and even occult rites.
The game is made by a single developer. OuterSloth, the developer behind Among Us, is helping to publish The Horror on Highrook. The artwork is gorgeous, and the nonlinear structure in which players progress through this gothic estate looks compelling. Here’s hoping all these elements mix to create something special.
The Midnight Walk
Release Date | May 8th |
Price | $39.99 |
Developer | MoonHood |
Publisher | Fast Travel Games AB |
Platform | Playstation 5, PSVR 2, PC |
The Midnight Walk was recently showcased at PlayStation’s State of Play and garnered the attention of many gamers. It is a horror adventure title that has a scary, yet surprisingly charming claymation aesthetic. Not only does it have a 2D mode, but it can only be played on PlayStation VR2, which, honestly, more titles need to adapt. I’m not sure what exactly VR has over regular 2d, but it’s nice that this title has the option to switch between the two.
From the looks of it, players will be traversing a dangerous world and will have to sneak around, perform puzzles, and potentially dabble in light combat. We will see if The Midnight Walk sticks the landing come May 8th.
Doom: The Dark Age
Release Date | May 14th |
Price | $69.99 |
Developer | id Software |
Publisher | Bethesda Softworks |
Platform | PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S |
Doom is back, and it looks more stylish than ever. Doom: The Dark Age is a prequel to 2016’s Doom. It’s set in a medieval backdrop where you’ll juggle a shield and various guns to fight hordes of enemies. Previews say that the movement is quick, partially thanks to the shield, which is also heavily used in multiple puzzles throughout the large arenas. It’s used in parrying and blocking as well, which will give Doom: The Dark Age a different feeling than previous entries.
The Developer has also stated that this prequel will have a larger emphasis on story. From everything we have seen and have been told, this next-gen horror offering is looking like it might be a contender for game of the year!
