Summer has certainly began here in the UK, a fact you may very much be aware of if you’re also chronically online – we love a moan – and nothing says summer like playing horror games in a dark room with the curtains drawn. This month we have a fine selection of eldritch beasts, cryptid encounters, and sci-fi shenanigans coming to stores; hopefully one of the 5 horror game releases on this list can give you chills in the heat.
You can catch up here if you missed last month’s picks. If you’re up to date but wish to feast your eyes on more horror goodness, we’ve got you covered:
- 5 Biggest Horror Movies Releasing In July 2025

If you are a regular reader of these monthly lists, then Dead of Darkness may be familiar, it having been an entry for a prior month. However this month it made its way to PlayStation, earning it another mention here.
Dead of Darkness is a 2D pixel art game following the story of a PI endeavouring to solve the murder of his daughter. Read documents, uncover clues, and talk to the mysterious residents to discover the secrets of Velvet Island, all while managing resources, evading beasts and keeping your sanity in check.
2. Dead Air

Fans of the 80s slasher vibes found in Killer Frequency can rejoice, as the niche genre returns with Dead Air. Similar to Killer Frequency, Dead Air sees radio presenter Luna Hart becoming the town’s emergency contact. Luna is faced with various calls throughout the night. Instead of a serial killer however, each caller has a story to tell of cryptid encounters – with rumours of a Mothman appearance among many others. The player will need to solve puzzles and navigate branching dialogue to select the correct response in order to save lives.
You can add Dead Air to your wishlist now on Steam.
3. System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is available now on Steam, and releases for consoles on July 10th.
System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster released on Steam at the end of last month, and console players only have to wait until July 10th for another SHODAN showdown. While not receiving the full remake treatment as System Shock, fans can expect various quality of life improvements in the System Shock 2 Remaster, such as enhanced gameplay, a graphics overhaul and more detailed character models.
The remaster will also support cross play co-op, allowing you and another player to play through the whole campaign and experience the traumatic events of the Von Braun together.
4. Shadow Labyrinth
Release | July 18th |
Price | From £24.99 ($29.99) |
Developer | Bandai Namco Studios Inc. |
Publisher | Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. |
Platform | PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 |
Subgenre | 2D, Platformer, Metroidvania |
Shadow Labyrinth releases on July 18th for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
While perhaps not the most intense entry in the genre, Bandai Namco putting PAC-MAN under the horror lens is certainly worth a mention. The 2D maze arcade game has been adapted into a 2D metroidvania, and instead of chomping on dots and fruits, you consume your enemies in order to grow and gain power.
You play as The Swordsman, accompanied by a familiar yellow sphere as you explore an alien world devastated by war. As you discover more of the strange world around you, you’ll unlock skills and abilities which you can combine to create a combat style suited for you.
If you’re a fan of Bandai Namco’s previous IPs, then there’s also familiar cameos to look forward to – though who they will be is yet to be revealed.
5. Killing Floor 3
Release | July 24th |
Price | £34.99 – £69.99 ($39.99 – $79.99) |
Developer | Tripwire Interactive |
Publisher | Tripwire Interactive |
Platform | PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC |
Subgenre | FPS, PvE, Sci-fi |
Please forgive me for another repeat entry, this time with Killing Floor 3. Following feedback from beta players, Tripwire Interactive delayed Killing Floor 3′s initial release from March until later this month, hoping to have used the time to make any criticisms constructive.
For newcomers to the series, Killing Floor 3 is set in 2091, where you and your team mates are up against mega corp Horzine’s bioengineered mutants, using a vast cache of weapons and player perks to give you the best possible chance of surviving the carnage.
For fans of the franchise and/or unimpressed beta players, Tripwire Interactive have made improvements regarding performance stability, lighting and UI, as well as enhancing overall weapon feel.
You can now request access to the next round of beta testing pre-release on Steam.
