Top Games With Superpowers

Why do we play games? To do the things we could never do in real life. If you are one of those people who still dream about waking up to discover you have superpowers we bring you a list of top games with magical or other kinds of powers to play around with while you wait.

Top Games With Superpowers

Some time ago, we brought you a list of 10 games with superpowers, however in the time between now and then there have been many additions to superpowered gaming (as well as some old ones we missed) so without further ado, we bring you an updated list of top games with superpowers, both released and upcoming that will make you an absolute powerhouse.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Top Games With Superpowers - Kingdoms of Amalur

Starting the list with a game that’s a bit older. Originally released way back in 2012, it’s really a shame that the studio that made it went bankrupt and the IP remains in limbo because Amalur was a solid game. What set it apart from me is the excellent class, combat, and magic system. With powers ranging from energy projection, lightning attacks, throwing meteors, causing storms and earthquakes, casting shields and teleporting among many others.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War

Top Games With Superpowers - Shadow of War

The first game was featured in our original list and it’s only right that its sequel is featured in this one. Shadow of War massively expanded the abilities of Talion and his wraith powers are dialed to 11 in this one. There’s mind controlling orcs, graugs, and even dragons to create your army. Super fast traversal, teleporting, creating weapons from thin air, controlling the elements and much much more. What’s the best thing about it all, like in the first game is that the enemies acknowledge your badass status and can even run in fear at the display of your power.

Agents of Mayhem

Top Games With Superpowers - Agents of Mayhem

Agents of Mayhem, despite being sub-par to what was expected nailed one thing. It had a diverse cast of characters with different customizable powers and a constant stream of enemies to test them. There are controlling nanites, invisibility, shields, ice powers and many more, some tied to characters and some to their weapons of choice.

Divinity: Original Sin 2

Top Games With Superpowers - Divinity Original Sin 2

Divinity: Original Sin 2 received a perfect score in our review. And rightfully so. One of the aspects of the game that was excellent is what lands it on this list as well – the magic system. With spells being categorized in 10 schools, there are numerous ones that are tied to air, fire, earth, water, necromancy, polymorphing, summoning and more. What’s awesome is how these spells interact between one another and the environment and by the end of the game, you can have a super-powerful character to curb stomp anyone that gets in your way.

Top Games With Superpowers - Vampyr

Vampyr is an excellent vampire role-playing game. Both from a story and gameplay perspective. What’s great about the gameplay segment is the fact that it features some awesome vampiric powers to flex your undead muscles if you decide to go that route. Teleporting, going invisible, throwing blood weapons, paralysis and more powers you’d expect a nocturnal predator would have.

Spiderman PS4

Top Games With Superpowers - Spiderman PS4

We all roughly know Spiderman’s power-set. What Insomniac seems to be doing is refining that to the absolute max with giving you the playground to fully utilize Spiderman as never before. From parkour, stealth, webbing to combat, and gadgets. It all blends seamlessly to probably deliver one of the best super-hero action experiences in a long time.

Black Desert Online

Top Games With Superpowers - Black Desert Online

Something a bit different. An MMO on the super-powers list you ask? While most MMO’s feature a power/magic system in one way or another, what sets apart Black Desert Online is the speed of execution,  combat feedback, and the presentation of it all. Considering that it was recently remastered to make the visuals even better, the action combat combined with class powers and abilities will make you feel super-powerful even when your character is not leveled at all and will make the grind to lvl. cap much more bearable.

The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

Top Games With Superpowers - Skyrim

Ah, Skyrim. It’s hard to imagine that Skyrim is the oldest game on this list but it truly is. It’s easy to understand why we forget that as we continuously revitalize Skyrim with mods ranging from visuals to immersion that update it to be more 2018. However, the reason Skyrim is on this list is the insane stuff you can do with its magic system and we even have a separate dedicated list for mods that expand this system to insane levels. Being a god-like super-powered character has never been easier.

Gravity Rush 2

Top Games With Superpowers - Gravity Rush 2

Gravity Rush 2 gives you the ability to control gravity of your main character ie. you can change the direction from which gravitational forces affect your body. In essence, this means that you can fly as well as do plenty of other things like walk on walls, make yourself lighter to jump great distances or heavier to punch harder, levitate people and objects to send them flying and more. All of that in a quirky, cartoony looking world that begs to be explored.

Quantum Break

Top Games With Superpowers - Quantum Break

Quantum Break was an interesting experiment in storytelling – combining a game and a live-action series to weave its time-traveling narrative. Despite having mixed reviews, we feel like at least the time powers and excellent visuals warrant that you give this game a go. You can pause time at will, create shields, send out blasts, move super fast and more. Using this with weapons against enemies can feel very empowering and is very fun.

Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey

Top Games With Superpowers - Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Although Assassin’s Creed series has always walked a thin line between believable and fantastical, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has one important addition that warrants its inclusion on this list – the Spear of Leonidas. This magical weapon grants its user superhuman strength, invincibility, invisibility, teleportation, elemental infusion, weapon phasing and more. While some might feel that this diminishes the franchise, it’s something I’ve wanted since its inception and can’t wait to try out.
