Battlefield 4

Starting off with one of the classic shooters, we’ve got Battlefield 4.

Sequel to 2011’s Battlefield 3, the game takes place six years later, during the fictional “War of 2020”.

For me, while the campaign mode is underwhelming, the multiplayer aspect is where Battlefield 4 really shines. Battlefield 4 set the new standard for multiplayer game modes, and few entries have been able to surpass those standards. The huge variety of maps and vehicles, accompanied by stunning visuals, make for an unforgettable experience, especially alongside friends.

Personally, some of the best aspects of the game are its map design and destructive environment. These two combined make for a spectacular show of technical and visual brilliance. As one of the best multiplayer shooters available, Battlefield 4 has to be included in this selection of great shooter games on Xbox Game Pass.

Star Wars Battlefront II

Based on one of the best franchises of entertainment, we’ve got Star Wars Battlefront II.

The third-person shooter puts players in huge ground or air battles, depending on the selected mode. Star Wars Battlefront II features three distinct eras from the saga: the Clone Wars, the Galactic Civil War, and the war between the Resistance and the First Order.

As one of my favorite franchises, I’ve spent countless hours in Battlefront II. As if the amount of content and different game modes weren’t enough, the great shooter mechanics feel extremely satisfying. Of course, the loot box system was a terrible decision by EA, but I believe that the overall gameplay quality can overshadow those poor choices.

In my opinion, the best moments in the game come when you are playing with your favorite character, like Yoda or Darth Vader. If you are a fan of the Star Wars universe, then do yourself a favor and play Battlefront II, you won’t regret it.

DOOM Eternal

Who doesn’t enjoy slaying some demons?

DOOM Eternal, the sequel to 2016’s Doom, follows the Doomguy as he fights the demonic forces of Hell. Played from a first-person perspective, the player has access to a plethora of melee and ranged weapons, alongside other gadgets.

To be completely honest, I wasn’t a fan of the DOOM franchise early on, but DOOM Eternal truly amazed me. The violence and destruction present in this game are depicted in such a way that glued me to the screen. DOOM Eternal is a beautiful mess of devastation and viciousness that when combined with the incredible map design and gunplay makes for an experience like no other.

As a big fan of fast-paced action games, DOOM Eternal provided some of the best gaming hours I’ve ever experienced. With all these aspects in mind, I chose to include DOOM Eternal in this list of 5 great shooter games available on Xbox Game Pass.

Halo Infinite

The sixth mainline entry in the Halo series, we’ve got Halo Infinite.

One of the greatest gaming franchises returns with Halo Infinite. The game follows the human super-soldier Master Chief in his battle against the Banished. Unlike previous entries, Halo Infinite features a free-to-play multiplayer mode.

For me, Halo Infinite shines brightest when the gunplay is involved, which is basically the whole game. In addition to the great gunplay, the massive open world is beautifully constructed, pairing perfectly with the excellent soundtrack. Also, one of the not so noticeable features that made a huge impact for me was the advanced enemy AI. The gameplay feels fresh and energized, making for a remarkable masterpiece.

In my perspective, it is one of the best FPS games out there, and for that, it deserves a spot in this selection of great shooter games on the Xbox Game Pass.

The Outer Worlds

Last but not least, we’ve got The Outer Worlds.

Set in an alternate future, the action RPG allows players to traverse multiple planets, completing missions for different factions and recruiting NPC companions along the way. The game features a first-person perspective and multiple melee weapons and firearms to aid the player in combat situations.

The Outer Worlds - Official Launch Trailer

The Outer Worlds is one of my favorite RPGs, without a doubt. The game is truly a breath of fresh air in the RPG genre, especially due to its excellent gameplay. The world in which the player is placed is graphically stunning, with some of the best world-building ever seen. Although I admit this game may not be for everyone, its compelling narrative and superb dialogue may draw in those fans looking for a more story-driven experience.

All these aspects coupled with an oddly satisfying gunplay make for one of the best experiences in the genre. This multi-layered RPG is truly one for the ages, and that is why I chose to include it in this list of 5 great shooter games on Xbox Game Pass.

I know, after all these fantastic suggestions it’s difficult to choose what to play first. The good news is they aren’t going anywhere, so enjoy these 5 great shooter games.
