Mortal Kombat has always been associated with ruthless battles and visceral action, and in recent years it’s gone beyond its own realm(s) of characters by introducing guest fighters from other popular IP’s and franchises. So here’s a compilation of characters that would seamlessly fit into the expansive and iconic Mortal Kombat roster, adding some unexpectedly perfect guest fighters to the mix!
Mad Max – From the Mad Max Films
Kicking off this list is the legendary wasteland drifter, Mad Max. Mortal Kombat‘s recent entries have been famous for adding in popular violent film characters. Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, Alien and Predator, and even God of war‘s Kratos are some of the most popular guests in the franchise. Mad Max has been making a massive comeback in media lately. There’s a fairly recent video game, the 2015 film, Mad Max: Fury Road, the upcoming Furiosa spinoff film, and the new sequel in the works, Mad Max: The Wasteland.
Mad Max could have a moveset utilizing his sawed-off shotgun, knife, and even special moves and fatalities including his original modded 1973 Ford Falcon. With Mortal Kombat‘s marketing tactics of adding guest characters that coincide with current film releases, this could be a likely addition. At least for the next installment after Mortal Kombat 1.
The Man With No Name – From The Dollars Trilogy Films
Next up is arguably Clint Eastwood’s most iconic character of all time, The Man With No Name. This isn’t one that has an upcoming film that they can cross-market, but it would still be a very interesting character to add. The Man With No Name could match up with other macho guest characters such as Rambo, The Terminator, and Robocop.
The Man With No Name might be from an older film than the others, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a timeless character that plenty of people wouldn’t recognize. His gun skills could be adapted into Mortal Kombat flawlessly, having a moveset similar to Erron Black with an anti-hero twist. And not to mention, it would be amazing to hear his classic theme at the beginning of his entrances.
Beatrix “The Bride” Kiddo – From The Kill Bill Films
This is one character that’s been tossed around more, but for very good reasons. The Bride is one of the most infamous characters from one of the most infamously hyper-violent films, Kill Bill Vol. 1&2, so it’s no wonder why fans think she’d fit so well into a Mortal Kombat game.
The Bride’s sword skills would make her fit in with the already established female ninjas in Mortal Kombat like Kitana, Mileena, and Jade, so seeing her interact with and fight those characters would be amazing! On top of that, Uma Thurman could definitely reprise her role. And if she’s not interested anymore, I’m sure her daughter, Maya Hawke, would be a great successor!
The Bride’s moveset could have some great combinations of hand-to-hand combat as well as sword wielding and could play somewhat similar to Fujin in Mortal Kombat 11, but obviously without his airbending. All in all, The Bride could be a very interesting candidate for a Mortal Kombat combatant.
The Maxx – From The Maxx Comics
Here’s a fairly obscure comic book character, The Maxx. There have been on-and-off rumors for years about a live-action film adaptation for this character. Also known as Dave, The Maxx has always been a very dark and complex character. With a strange sense of humor and anti-hero antics, he could be a very fun and whacky character to play.
The combination of Maxx’s intimidating, bulky size and his extremely strong and sharp claws would make him a perfect guest fighter. He could potentially play similarly to Baraka and Goro, introducing an intriguing new dimension to the Mortal Kombat roster. And with Mortal Kombat 1‘s announced guests being comprised of comic book characters, this one isn’t too farfetched.
Conan The Barbarian
Here’s one character that many fans have anticipated to be introduced as a guest character in Mortal Kombat. Conan The Barbarian is possibly one of the most brutal characters in media, making him a phenomenal choice for a Mortal Kombat guest fighter. Ever since they began adding guest characters, Conan The Barbarian has always been an amazing option.
Conan has been adapted into multiple films, comics, novels, and TV shows across the decades with a wide range of styles, which could make for a very unique kind of guest character in Mortal Kombat. This could be a brand new original adaptation of the character to specifically fit the roster. While the rights for Conan The Barbarian are in some sort of gray area, I’m sure the NetherRealm team could easily figure out how to obtain the rights.
As for Conan’s gameplay, he could be similar to other weapon-wielding brutes such as Kotal Kahn and Shao Kahn, alternating between wielding a sword, an axe, and other weapons like a mace, spear, and more. This brings us to our next character, who could be adapted similarly…
Dracula
Dracula has been an infamous bloodsucking monster for nearly a century and a half. He’s completely in the public domain, leaving ample room for originality as a hypothetical Mortal Kombat guest fighter. Constantly adapted into various forms of media, Dracula’s character remains relevant since his creation in the 1890s.
Depending on the direction taken, Dracula’s playstyle could be a fusion of Shang Tsung, Mileena, Nitara, Skarlet, Shinnok, Quan Chi, and potentially more! So, given Dracula’s significant influence on culture and media, particularly in hyper-violent contexts, it’s surprising that Mortal Kombat is yet to incorporate him into the roster.
Big Daddy – From Bioshock
The Bioshock series boasts some of gaming’s most iconic horror characters, including the formidable Big Daddy. Recognizable for their ominous presence and association with Little Sisters, Big Daddy’s inclusion would undoubtedly bring fresh dynamics to Mortal Kombat.
Imagine Fatality sequences involving the menacing drill, capturing the essence of Bioshock‘s atmospheric horror. While his size initially seems like a challenge, a gameplay approach akin to Ferra & Torr from Mortal Kombat X could provide an engaging solution, opening doors for innovative combat mechanics. Big Daddy and Little Sister could also bring plenty of redemption to Mortal Kombat‘s short lived and unpopular double character gimmick. An alternative would be to make Little Sister as a Kameo fighter, if that gimmick continues in the franchise after the new Mortal Kombat 1.
Voldo – From Soul Calibur
From one storied franchise to another, here’s the enigmatic Voldo from Soul Calibur! Voldo has the potential to weave his peculiar fighting style into the Mortal Kombat universe. His fluid, contorted movements could mirror the unsettling nature of Mortal Kombat‘s most unique characters. Imagine the twisted elegance of Voldo’s Fatalities, a seamless blend of acrobatics and ferocity.
Voldo’s potential as a guest fighter in Mortal Kombat is tantalizing. His distinct combat style, eccentricity, and enigmatic grace would seamlessly blend with Mortal Kombat’s diverse and brutal roster. Fans would eagerly embrace Voldo’s unique, gruesome Fatalities and his game-enhancing flair.
Nemesis – From Resident Evil
Venturing into the realm of survival horror, Nemesis from Resident Evil arrives with undeniable appeal. His relentless pursuit and menacing presence have left an indelible mark on gaming history. Including a Mr. X skin could add an exciting twist, allowing players to choose between two iconic foes. Nemesis’ tentacles and rocket launcher would promise a diverse set of moves and Fatalities that encapsulate the pure horror he embodies.
Nemesis, the menacing Resident Evil figure, adds relentless terror and unique combat to Mortal Kombat. Consequently, Nemesis could be an exhilarating addition to the Mortal Kombat universe.
Raiden – From Metal Gear Solid
Completing this lineup is the electrifying Raiden from Metal Gear Solid. His dynamic combat skills, honed through various Metal Gear titles, could translate seamlessly into Mortal Kombat‘s fast-paced battles. Including his signature moves, such as the high-frequency blade and acrobatic maneuvers, opens doors for a captivating gameplay experience. The addition of this Raiden would undoubtedly electrify the Mortal Kombat roster. And not to mention, the great intro dialogue potential with the Thunder God himself would be hilarious!
In summary, Raiden from Metal Gear Solid offers dynamic combat skills, electrifying potential, and engaging gameplay, enriching Mortal Kombat‘s roster.
