Find here the Review and Theories about One Piece Chapter 1073. The chapter called “Miss Buckingham Stussy” offers us the very first introduction of one of the Five Elders, one of the highest controlling entities in the world of One Piece. In this review, we’ll cover everything new and what it implies followed by theories and comments about new pieces of information.
Cover Page
As soon as the cover page we can see Vegapunk receiving the “Mobel Peace Price” for turning bullets into flowers. This is a reference to the famous picture “The Ultimate Confrontation: The Flower and the Bayonet” a celebrated anti-war picture, referencing the age of “Flower Power”.
This cover page hints that, far from the current state of old Vegapunk, is very different from the others members of mad. Remember, in chapter 1072, Caesar, Queen and Vinsmoke Judge, working on “Weapons of Slaughter”. It hints that Vegapunk might be longing for peace rather than war, even though he creates weapons. This also reminded me of Alfred Nobel, the Nobel peace prize inventor (Note “Mobel Peace” in the cover page), who was working on weapons and invented among other things, the dynamite. Filled with remorse he then went on to invent this prize in order to promote peace. Now, onto the review and theories of One Piece 1073.
Stussy The Traitor
Stussy turned out to be an ally of Dr. Vegapunk, the MADs scientist who cloned Ms. Buckingham, a former member of the Rocks Pirate, in order to create Stussy. Using Rokushiki, she puts both Lucci and Kaku to sleep with the help of Sea Prism Stone, hidden in her lipstick. She underlines the fact that she isn’t “Crazy enough to fight them fair”, hinting that in actual combat, she might lose to the power of the 2 Cp Agents.
With her dark wings and fangs, she reminds us of a Succubus. A charming female demon using her charms to seduce and use men. We still don’t know if this power is from the original Miss Buckingham. One thing is sure though, it reminds of the story told by the latter, claiming to Whitebeard’s ex-wife. She could have used this power to get Whitebeard’s DNA.
Right after the treacherous act, Shaka reacts to a comment made by Nami, when she points out how crazy it is to have a Spy in Cp0. Shaka answers that it wasn’t “By design”: This implies that Stussy wasn’t created to become a spy. He also mentions that she was created 20 years ago. Meaning that she was created approximately around the time Dragon and Vegapunk met on Ohara, between the years 1500-1502.
Stussy Theories
We know that Stussy had been nicknamed the “Queen of the Pleasure District” (titles varies according to translations) which gave her the title of one of the emperors of the Underworld, and an Invite to Big Mom’s tea party in Chapter 871, she’s important enough to get an invite. Again, title pushing the idea of Succubus.
I mention this because this might be why the original Miss Buckingham changed her name to Buckin and is not known as an ex-rocks member. The clone simply overtook her fame and reputation, the old Buckin being too different from her old self, the Marine probably didn’t recognize her. In the same way they didn’t recognize Hyogoro in Wano, because of how much he changed phisically. Stussy probably worked out a deal with the government, making her a Cp0 agent.
It is not yet known if this ability stems from a Zoan-type Devil Fruit or another kind of genetic modification. But the wings are clearly a new type of wing seen in One Piece. As a reminder, races that have wings, Shandia, Birkans, and Lunarians, are not human. Meaning she either did eat a devil fruit, or she isn’t Human. It looks like she’ll be escaping the island with the Straw Hats as well. Stussy being a clone, probably means that she has the knowledge and memories of Buckin. Therefore, she potentially knows a lot about MADS, Rocks, Big News Morgan, AND Cp0 (in regard to Vivi and Sabo). She’s a repository of knowledge, she might become a key character in this arc.
Seraphim
Another big plot part of Egghead is the many Seraphims that we keep learning more about. Their order is still to destroy the lab. If we focus our attention on Zoro’s sentence when he looks at Mihawk’s Seraphim, we understand that this tiny out-of-the-world clone is “More Human” than “Him”. “Him” obviously refers to Mihawk, this implies that the latter might not be human after all. His full name is Dracule Mihawk, another reference to a vampire-like being in the same chapter, weird…
Another possibility is that Seraphims are actually more human than we think, hitting that they might get “feelings” and disobey orders according to them… In a Kuma type of fashion. Guess we’ll have to see more about them in order to understand all that.
Vegapunk Disappearance
Unfortunately, I don’t have much to say here. Since the beginning of this arc Oda multiplies, the people disappearing, getting kidnapped, and potentially dead, like Coby, Vivi, Sabo, or even Sun Carlos… Are these disappearances all linked? Unlikely. Are Bonney and Vegapunk stuck in Kuma’s memories? Not impossible but, hard to say… More updates on this in the next review.
Sphinx, Hometown of Whitebeard
We have an update on Whitebeard’s hometown, Sphinx. Marco is back from Wano in the hope of finally being retired but he finds out that the marine went there to find the “Vast Treasure”, the emperor left behind. Reminding us of what happened in Nami’s village, back in east blue. The two Marines look like each other a lot actually. In reality, the “Vast” treasure, might just be the island.
Weeble stopped them though, and that doesn’t come as a surprise as it was known that Buckin wanted a hold of this treasure. Ryokogu arrived, and arrested Weeble, bringing him to Impel Down where he should meet Doflamingo, the only ex-Shichibukai left, that didn’t get his moment of glory: The cross guild has been formed with Mihawk and Crocodile, Boa Hancock was attacked by Blackbeard but saved by Rayleigh. Jinbei joined the Strawhats, Moria attacked the Beehive and finally, Weeble was seen on Sphinx.
Impel Down 2.0?
Then we can consider that Doflamingo is going to have a role to play in this new part of the story as well. I can feel the impel down 2.0 coming already, with Sabo or Vivi and Doflamingo and Weeble as troublemakers. The situation might get spicy really quick, as Buckin asks Marco the phoenix to save her son.
Retirement is still far for Marco then; we can imagine two things happening here. Either Marco goes full Luffy and decides to take on the jail by himself, or, he heads to Egghead in order to find out if Weeble is truly Whitebeard’s son. The simple fact that she introduces Vegapunk in the equation could mean that Weeble is a “failed” clone of Whitebeard. Or that as a Succubus, she might have got a hand on Whitebeard’s DNA. Not going to explain how, you can figure that out yourself, this review is SFW…
St JayGarcia Saturn
The biggest revelation of this chapter is of the Celestial Dragon’s name St JayGarcia Saturn. For the first time ever in One Piece, a member of the Gorosei is leaving the castle, in order to kill Vegapunk. The latter was right then, his research on the Old Kingdom is too much for the status quo established by the Gorosei.
The Japanese word for the Five Elders, “Gorōsei”, translates more closely to “Five Elder Stars”, it is no surprise then that one of the “Stars” is Saturn. This follows the pattern of the names of the Ancient Weapons Poseidon (Neptune) Uranus and Pluton. The list of things in One Piece called after planets is growing, we now have Neptune, Saturn, Uranus, and Pluton. There are five planets left in the solar system then Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and of course the Earth.
A theory shared by a lot of people online, is therefore that the other four elders will be called Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Jupiter. Leaving the Earth for Im-Sama, the mysterious character sitting on the empty throne of One Piece.
Gorosei Theories
The other thing that could link them to these names is simply the days of the week. As you may know, each day of the week represents a star or a planet. Tuesday is Mars, Wednesday is Mercury, Thursday is Jupiter, Friday is Venus and Saturday is Saturn – The Five Elders.
I purposely left out Sunday and Monday but let met me explain why first. As we know by now, Luffy’s fruit is actually a Mythical Zoan-type Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. Nika is more commonly known as the “Sun God”. The Sun is Sunday. Leaving only Monday then, the Moon. If we follow this pattern we have 5 days named after the five elders, and two days left that are named after the Sun and the Moon. I believe the antagonist of the manga, the opposite of Luffy (the Sun), his natural enemy, will be the moon, Marshall D. Teach. Leaving once again, the Earth, to Im-Sama.
Here we go this is it for the reviews and theories of One Piece chapter 1073! We’ll be back next week, and please share with us your thoughts about this chapter and the theories you have!
